Turn around time with kellyco

I have an excal I would like to get serviced. I heard due to death, kellyco was backed up quite a bit. Is this still the case, what kind of turnaround can you expect on and excal?

It took them 2 weeks just to even ship my brand new excal out of their warehouse after ordering and when I inquired about my order on the 4th day after ordering it, I was told 2 different stories by 2 different employees in the same phone call!. First one said it was back ordered, then she got me on the line with someone else who could give me more detail and he said it was shipped the day after I ordered it. Yet I didnt get tracking conformation till 2 weeks later in which I followed it online to my house. Then when it arrived, it wasnt the complete order. They had to over night me the missing pieces to my order.

Minelabs repair facility located at Kellyco is anywhere from one to two months backlogged on repairs to machines that are not under warranty They have to take care of warranty work ahead of any non warranty work. Two months is an improvement from what the backlog was a few months ago. Minelab Promised back in Feb that they would be solving the problem by Mid Summer. So far I have not heard of any positive action that they have taken.

Dont confuse Kelleyco with ML. The shop belongs to ML and is just housed at Kelleyco. Id think there are periods of heavy influx...... when they are used and when people believe they arent busy. I was lead to believe the EU shop, Russ Kirk and his crew helped get them back to some what normal. Those screens and leaks on the CTX must be keeping them busy....... and profitable lol. We all like the product....... but service AFTER the sale gets you more business.

"Heavy influx" is correct, as example, I know they received 30 detectors for repair in just the first 3 days of last week alone. They will work on detectors Minelab no longer supports and the previous repair centers would not accept in for repair..

So I get my excal back today and I set it up on my new plugger cf shaft and I notice that the knobs are different. Marty installed anderson knobs with the stainless setscrews instead of the crappy minelab knobs. Looked at repair invoice and a $20 charge for knobs. Awsome, but I bought a set of andersons while detector was out for repair. Guess I have extras now. Good to know minelab sees a fault with theirs.

dewcon4414 nailed it! Just one tech repairing for Minelab in North America!

On July 31 we drove almost 3 hours in tropical storm Emily from Tarpon Springs to Winter Springs to drop off my Excal for repair. My wife hated the drive in the downpours but she knows how important my detecting is to me. I figured since we were headed back north later in the week I'd save shipping and another week without it. I got to meet Marty the tech who is doing all the Minelab repairs for North America. That's one man doing ALL this work. He's a real good guy and great to talk to and totally honest about the situation. Ya gotta be patient and it is not the fault of Kellyco! Meanwhile if you get a chance to visit the Kellyco showroom spend a few minutes talking to the staff, they are avid detectorists. Chris at the front desk is as nuts as any of us who love detecting.

Backstory:
We were in Florida the last couple of weeks fixing up our winter home. My Excalibur 2 showed instability on my first water hunt there, blaring and not settling to a threshold while the coil was submerged in the Gulf. Fine out of the water from all I could test but just nuts in the salt water. I suspected the sensitivity pot may have gone bad. I usually hunt in auto tune at zero disc. Experimenting with the settings I found it was almost useable if I turned up the disc to 7, it still hit on my wedding band. I tried it three different days / hunts and took it off the shaft to prep for the repair work. I take great care of my water units and it was fine in the Atlantic (Cape Cod) a couple weeks prior. I'm sporting the knob guard and Dave's pinpoint mod as well as GGA's on my head, the rig rides on an Anderson CF shaft if I'm not flying somewhere to hunt. I really love this unit. The seals and o-rings, coil and battery had been changed out when I had the mods done a couple to 3 years ago. I'd need to check my paperwork but am still away from home, currently in Staunton Va. red clay...arrgh. Since we had a full SUV I only brought the one detector (I never do that) so I've been messing with our granddaughter's Ace 350 in Va. for fun.
I hope my little story here clarifies why the turn around time is so long....6 to 8 weeks I was told.

I should mention everything GeorgeinSC is also spot on.
I'll be out of action after 9/18 due to surgery to correct surgical hernias from my fiasco of 5 yrs ago. Meanwhile I'm just glad I have more water hunting detectors to try and score with.
