Yesterday I went to an old park in town. This park has been heavily detected, but I have been finding some good things there with my E-trac. Yesterday I found a clad dime, two wheats, some zinc pennys, several pre 82 pennys, a lot of screw tops, several pieces of melted lead, etc. The last item I found was a badly worn Indian Head penny.
If a coin is covered in dirt, grime, etc. when I recover it, I don't try to clean it in the field, but wait till I get home. When I got home, I put the coins in some water with soap to loosen the dirt, etc. In the afternoon I took a closer look. The clad dime had a date of 1946. It wasn't clad. It was badly tarnished Rosie, but has cleaned up nicely.
Then I started to look at the Indian Head penny. On the back it said, One Dime. It was a 1896 Barber Dime. My first.
I would post pictures, but when I try, the site says they are too large.
