Two Productive Hunts This Week

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
Got out for two hunts in a row on Monday & Tuesday after work. Monday I went to a spot I have hunted before but the grass had got up about 3 feet tall and was lucky they had cut it over the weekend. I went over the area once again and dug all signals. I found 2 V nickels, 2 Buffalos, a War nickel and a worn Barber dime. I also found a cool Army looking ring.
Yesterday I went back to another spot I've had good luck before. A storm was quickly rolling in so I quickly got to hunting and managed to pull 3 silver dimes and another War nickel. I also dug a nice CW musket ball. Lots of fun on these short hunts that produce some nice keepers. HH David

Nice keepers Dave! You're certainly living up to your forum name. Thanks for the great pics too!

Thanks Cladiator! My forum name is a typo and it's suppose to be Stooper Dave but I just went with it :lmfao:

Great finds. Especially that ring. That is awesome! Thanks for the story and the pictures.

WTG Dave:jump: The loudest thing you said to me was you dug all signals.

Hey thanks! Yeah I don't mind trying to clean a place out. This place is not real trashy so it makes it easier. I have gridded this field off 4 different directions and have used 3 different coils. If I can get a signal it to repeat even from just one direction I dig it out.

Great hunts!

I agree with your comment about digging all signals in some locations. One yard I had been very successful in (see article in Sept. 2013 American Digger, WWI medallion, Barber Quarter, 5 Merc's, War Nickel, Buffalo nickel, lots of wheats) kept on giving as I went back multiple times in multiple angles with different coils.

By digging every signal I ended up pulling a lot more, including a Civil War SC button, Barber dime, and tons more wheaties from the teens and twenties. Most of these finds were down around 8 inches. This yard had a lot of iron in the soil that made it hard to get everything in one or two visits.

So I truly agree that if you have continuous access to a great site that is difficult to hunt, keep going back until it is quiet. You will be surpirsed at what you have missed because you didn't get your coil over it in just the right way to hear it.

Now I just have to get some of these spots again! I am in the worst silver drought I have ever had. My last silver was the surprise 1840 half dime in the front yard of a 1915 house back in late April.

Happy Hunting and keep showing us all the neat stuff you find!
