Two questions for you X-1 users

The first one, does anyone have a problem where regardless of what sensitivity you have your detector set at, manual or semi-auto, the X-1 will sound off/false with barely any shaking of it? I haven't totally isolated the conditions, but I think humid or moist days my X-1 is pretty much useless. I'll be waving it back and forth and receive good hi-tone signals and falsing. I can hold it off the ground where I know there isn't a signal, and waving the wand, not even too roughly, and it sounds off in sinc with each wave/movement. Does anyone experience this? Of late it has been pretty bad and I'm wondering if I need to try and have it serviced. (figures, I'm 2 months past the warranty)

My 2nd question, do you switch back to manual sensitivty when you use it to pin point? I find when I have the sensitivity set that is just stable for my detecting coil, the X-1 is extremely unstable until I either lower the sensitivity or switch back to semi-auto. This is my 2nd year of detecting, primarily last year I did not mess around with manual sensitivity. This year I want to go for those deeper targets, but I'm finding it a pain in the back side to switch back and forth.

What do you all do? Does anyone have the same issues?

Thanks in advance for your feedback,

Jai

Sounds to me like you have a short in the wire of the probe . The X-1 probe is usually very stable no matter where the sensitivity is set . If you are the original owner and it is still under warranty you can get it repaired at Sunray for free . If not you can pay to have it fixed by Sunray and have a years warranty on it ( this is what I did and it's cheaper than buying a new one ).

I had this problem with my dx-1 about 2 weeks ago.I couldnt move the thing without it sounding off.I tried everything from re doing all the connections to re-setting the machine. The reset helped some. But i never figured it out.It works fine NOW.I thinnk the site i was hunting at had something to do with it.If it does it everywhere for you and you have done the re-set and checked your connections you may have a problem with the probe.I sometimes turn my to auto sens while pinpointing IF i am running the sens hot .I usually dont have to tho.I never use the pinpoint mode thru the probe either.I just sent my SE back too nevada to have it checked out, acting funny.Id send it back if you cant get it figured out, they will replace it.These are the best probes i have used,i like not having something else hanging off my belt, and no extra batteries to buy.Good luck and Good Diggin.

I talked to Ralph @ Sunray not to long ago (Great guy) about the same exact problem with my X-1 probe on my XS. We discussed it in length and decided it was probably a short in a wire somewhere and the cost to fix it would be more than half of the cost of a new one so I figured I'll just save up the balance and buy new. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I recently had the same exact problem. I sent Ralph proof that I purchased my X-1 new. I shipped it to Sunray and they swapped out the probe. The switch box was the same. Functions like new now.

John, did you purchase the X-1 within a year, or had you had it for longer?

Cinder soil will do that, but id check the connection at the top rod going to the box. I find just the opposite... running too high of sensitivity in MANUAL makes it a little more difficult to pinpoint. Its a smaller coil basically and as the sensitivity is increased it attracts targets farther away in kind of a halo effect. I never have to adjust my sensitivity if i turn the probe on PINPOINT.. it rachets right in. There have been a few posts lately of switch problems... but i have to say its been the best probe ive ever owned and has out lived my others. I even put a chair leg protector on mine to protect the tip with NO difference in depth.
