Unknown Fossil

Member
I “found” this fossil at a flea market. The seller had several like this that he said he dug up while digging house footers, somewhere near Nashville, Tenn.

I don’t know much about fossils and my one book does not show something like this. It looks like a bunch of dime sized tubes stuck together.

Would like to know what it is. Thanks

Its a coral... they are very common in Tennessee. I used to find smaller chunks when out hiking.

Very cool...I lived there for a year and collected many fossils....I had a great time....you found a nice big speciment there!

It looks like those red tubes found at the bottom of the ocean and close to volcanoes. I don't know the name of them but let me investigate. They have like a feather at the tip of each tube and that is what traps the food. I would put them definetely in my collection. Nice find and keep posting.
