:usaa: Leanna tackles another sculpture commission.

My girls have been posting their artwork on an art forum. They've been getting a lot of compliments and interaction with other artists. They are inspiring other people as well as being inspired by other people's work; it is a good place for artists to encourage and share their work. An older man on there saw Leanna's dog sculptures; he contacted Lee and asked if she would be willing to do a sculpture of his sheltie collie who had died several years ago. He said price was no problem (that's what we like to hear). Leanna gave him a price, he accepted, and sent what few pictures he had of the collie, useful for sculpting purposes. He told Lee the position that he would like the dog in (he sent photo), and he would also like the dog sculpted with its favorite stuffed toy.

The preliminary process is getting a layer of clay down and a wire support in it and a support for the dog's head.

Then Leanna packs on the clay, pounding, squishing and pushing into the rough shape of a collie.

She then starts the painstakingly slow process of tweaking the clay and adding detail, hair by hair.

Lee will sit like this for hours; sometimes as long as 6 hours at a time working on her sculpture.

After a week of laborious work, Lee has finally finished the sculpting process of the dog. It will now go in the oven to be baked and harden, then she will get out the airbrush and paint brushes and paint the dog according to the photograph sent. Then it will be sprayed with clear acrylics, mounted onto a custom made base for it, and shipped off to the owner. I will post more pictures after Lee gets it painted and mounted.
Thanks for looking; click on photos to enlarge.
