As I sat here writing a brief tale about watching a sea otter from as close as thirty feet while I was on my morning beach combing stroll, my computer stalled and I lost the story!

At first I thought it was a young seal, but then I realized it didn't swim like a seal.

This is my first sighting of one of these creatures and I didn't have a camera along to record the event!!

It is also the first time my computer has stalled.

A computer mystery and another lesson (Carry a camera!) learned,

They are certainly fun to watch! We have a family of them here in west Mich on the Muskegon River, they fish a big hole at the bend...one old neighborhood guy stole a bunch of their fish one day!
He stood behind a tree, and when they brought a fish up on the bank, he would wait for them to return to the water, then go and get it! He said he got 8 nice walleyes from them before they figured it out! He doesn't strike me as a teller of tall tales, but you know old guys...the numbers are probably high! They sure do seem to enjoy life, and have really rebounded across the states in the last 15 years or so.
Well, I'm off for my morning walk as soon as the wife gets back from taking the dogs to the vet. (nothing serious) gonna go find some gold I guess to pay for it!

Stonington I used to see harbor seals from time to time. I miss the ocean for sure, mostly the smell of the ocean. As we head south to visit we pick right up on it. Geo

A local fellow I know tells me he has seen several around the Connecticut and Black Hall Rivers.
in the shore area of Old Lyme up to about four feet long.

This is my first sighting in forty years of living here with many hours on and in the water.

It was about three and a half feet long.

It was as curious about me as I was about it and swam into shore thirty feeet or so from me.

I whistled softly to see what would happen and was delighted to see it move closer.

It swam with a "dog paddling" stroke unlike a seal swims and was underwater a lot looking for fish I imagine.

A couple of weeks ago I saw six or seven seals on the rocks off Hatchets Point early in the morning and haven't seen them since.

It's great to see these creatures.

Saw some on the west coast but never here. Beautiful along the coastline down there. I miss it but for what the wife wanted we needed lots of land for horses so here we are. Geo
 
When I was down on the coast, I used to see otters when I was diving.. Cute little critters.

I just bought one and it takes nice pictures AND does video. All for around 80 bucks plus SDHD memory card. I bought a 32 GIG memory card for it but it is not necessary, I popped it in and saw that I can get 9999 top quality photos on it. Sorta over kill :blink: Like I said, it also does video. This little camera is also water proof to 10 ft and that is perfect for kayaking. It is small and will easily fit in a pocket and looks rugged as heck.

I was not aware that they even had sea Otter on the east coast. Too bad you didn't have a camera.

Years ago a friend and I were fishing a lake near Alpena Mi when I saw a small otter, heck it was near the boat and was looking us over. My buddy thought it was cute and I told him it was probably tame and he ought to grab it :D My bad:rofl: He reached for it, it was next to the boat and it took off with a splash. I was laughing my butt off visualizing the lesson Ray was gonna get if he grabbed that wild otter.

I have seen them on trips to Canada too. Beautiful animals
 
Pretty decent video Royal.

It's amazing what is availible today at reasonable prices!

I haven't tried video yet, but one day I guess I'll have to in order to share things like the otter.

I've never before seen one "in the wild" and I've been in and on the water my whole life except when I lived in Arizona.

Good price on it also. I'm thinking maybe get one for my bike and mount it on the front. Water proof enough to keep it safe. George-Ct
