A coastal storm blew in last night with wind steady in the 35 MPH range and gusts reaching 50+ MPH!

Having finished my coffee and roll I donned my foul weather gear and rubber boots, then plastic pail and

Not too many finds but definitely a pleasant outing
which is better than the frozen expanse I'd be faced with.

Bobbie you must have missed all the posts I have written about living in Old Lyme, CT.

My family and I have been in this same house for 40 years this year!

It is a five minute walk to the beach I hunt and write about.

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

It's fascinating to know that yesterday I was walking on frost on the damp sand at the beach and today it was in the high 60s!

Thanks for your reply Rick!

It's always nice to get positive feedback!

GL&HH Fellow Hunter,

Are you the plumber that my husband talked too a while back? I have been tied up with a new job lately and have not had the time to read all the posts.

I am a plumber and I talk to lots of people!

Need more info to answer your question.

Text message??

My hubby AKA J-man either was using his Excal with a 12" SunRay coil, Whites or DetectorPro when he met up with you. He told me that he had spoken with an elderly gentleman who lived in the area and was a plumber. He enjoyed his conversation with you. Hubby is 5'10" and wears glasses, he either had a stainless steel scoop or a galvanized smaller scoop that he likes a lot because it is so light. We often hunt together, but this was one of the times that I was working. and he was on the prowl for gold!.

Bobbie....
Good to have a Lady that has the same hobby...he's a lucky Man! Joe

I prefer "gettin older" to "elderly" thank you very much!!!!!

I read a study done some years ago about when people saw themselves as being "old".

The people interviewed almost to a person thought they would be old when they were an average of twelve years older than their present age!!

I'm now 68 years of age (not old!!). and when I'm twelve years older I will be old!!

Ask me again next year and add 12 years to my age then! Etc, Etc.

About speaking with your spouse, I don't recall a "J-man" other than my wife's 2nd cousin Jason.

Of course that doesn't mean I wasn't the fellow he talked to, it's just that I do talk to a lot of people on the beach!

Should we meet again he only needs to mention J-man and I'll be up to speed!

I look forward to it and of course meeting you as well.

GL&HH Fellow Hunter,

CJ

I can teach you the most important knowledge for using any metal detector form here!!

Listen for the soft, barely noticeable signals and go sloooooooooooooooooooooow!!!

I've hunted slowly in several hunters wake and found gold when they found nothing but clad coins.

Slooow and steady finds the gold better than any alternative!

Early last year I started hunting again after a long hiatus and using my old XL-500 PI machines found a few gold rings.

I bought an Infinium and found more gold rings, but then I was hunting more!!

This years I bought a Dual Field and found more gold rings!!

My method has remained the same; learn what the machine is saying and listen for those small (was it a signal or not?) signals and go slow!!

I like the DF's long battery life, nice handling characteristics, and light weight, but I can not honestly say I wouldn't have found the rings if I had stayed with the XL-500s!!

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

PS If you're ever in the area give me a heads up and I would like to show you around!!

In the past couple of days I found lots of fishing line, but no hooks until after sundown this PM.

In the dimming evening light I saw about two feet from the waters edge a brass swivel laying on the sand and reaching down I grabbed the thing and pulled up a long wire leader with a large hook attached that had been buried maybe 8" in the wet sand!

I'll rest easier tonight!

CJ

words to live by and hunt by- go slow and those faint hits are the ones to dig.use that same method myself-keep telling people its not a race but like you I just follow them picking up the good stuff after they picked up trash or clad.this last summer I've gotten more gold/silver using a wader then with any other detector used in past 20yrs.those folks at detector pro have high quality products at a very reasonable prices

He will be out of commission for a while, but I might show up one of these nice weather days. We are in the same age boat as you!......just look for a short fat old lady!
