v3i/garrett pro pointer compatibility?

2 days past I hunted with a Buddie and his v3i,yesterday I purchased one.I hunted today for about an hour and found that when I turn on the probe the v3i starts cycling as if it was hunting, I turn the probe off and its fine.Brand new unit, new probe c/j program all factory programs.I don't figure it's hurting anything it just don't seem it should do that and it is kinda distracting hearing the machine cycling like that when I'm probing a hole.

.....move the coil away from the hole when you are searching the hole with the pinpointer.....you are talking about the most sensitive detector on the market here....it will pick up any and everything you put near it.....including my steel toed boots....:detecting:

That is one way and another is to press the menu button to put the detector in stand by and then squeeze the trigger when you are ready to hunt again. Another solution is to get the SunRay DX-1 probe.

very true...and good point Larry...thing is, keep the pinpointer away from the coil....I use a sunray probe now, so that isn't an issue, but ....with the garrett....ya gotta keep it away from the coil of the detector....or it will go bananas on ya.

Thank you sir.and a big Amen on the DX-1
(menu to stand-by)

That is the combo I have. No problems. I always lay the detector down in a way that the coil is well away from the "dig". Once the plug is cut, I only use the pinpointer. I've used the Garrett when the V3i was in both C&J and Deep Silver. Haven't noticed a problem.

Thank you LittleJohn,I swing the detector with the Left arm, plug and probe with the right so proximity between the coil and probe would be probably 3ft.

I'll lay out a grid tomorrow and video whats occurring. After reading LittelJohn and Larry's reply I went outside ground balanced the machine found a target set down the machine and went through the motions turned the probe on same thing happened, pressed menu as Larry said no more interference.
The distance from the coil pointed away from the plug is the length of the machine with the box at my side this is the way I sit my machine because my head phone coax(mxts) and Dx-1 cable (mxts)I'm wireless now but don't want to sit my machine in the next county(sensitivity)lol/ain't no joke a truly awesome machine.

The only time my detector picked up the Garrett was when I was in TX boost. Then I heard it.

Never had any issues with the Garrett Pro Pointer and the V3. Works like a dream, and does not bulk up and change the balance of my machine.

You might have a bad grounding (shielding) connection on either the Pro Pointer or V3i. Is it possible to try another Pro Pointer? Either way it seems that you are getting more interference than you should. I would call Garretts for suggestions, interference is a common problem with that unit and it sounds like you are getting more than you should. Good luck.

I can't really understand this topic still pops up all the time. If my V3i beeps when I have the Garrett's PP on, the V is telling me, "Move me away a little." My coil is, by habit, not near my dug hole anyway now that I have the Pro Pointer. Not needed. martin

His question was as good as many others. I hope his question is answered. I have a DX1 but have a pro pointer ordered to replace the one I lost last week. I'm digging deep old coins and can't use a shovel were I am hunting. I need to keep my all metal turned up to help pin point the deep ones. I use and need a pin pointer to keep the hole size down.
