Very "Chirpy" Sunray X-1 probe

filo

New member
I'm running into some trouble in the last couple hunts where the X-1 probe on my E-Trac has been chirpy and falsing a lot as soon as I flip the switch on it. It used to be rather quiet unless there was iron or some other metal around but suddenly it seems to want to make high pitch noises no matter what I do or what it's near. Has anyone else run into this? It will still make the right sound and consistent noise when put directly next to metals but chirps randomly and oddly in most other situations. Could it be due to humidity? It's been brutally hot and humid here over the last few days. Is it defective? Any help greatly appreciated.

I should have done a search before making this post. Looks like there is a common problem with the X-1 where it starts to false a lot as it dies. Ugh. Not good. And rather expensive to repair. It's very handy but a working lifespan of 1.5 years almost doesn't make the price worth it.

I haven't had a problem with mine in the two years I've had it on my ETrac. Ralph is a great guy and I'm sure if it his problem he will fix it. Great pinpointer!

I have never had a problem with mine and the one on my Safari is going on 3 years old. Are you hunting in all metal? Ralph will make it right so you may need to give him a call. Check both connections. Good luck. HH :minelab:

I have had several Sunray in-lines on my various detectors for extended periods of time over the years and have never had a problem one with any of them.-----Shoot Ralph a P.M., email, or give him a call.----He's a good guy and will get right back to you as he cares for his customers & business.-----------Del

Thanks for all the comments. I was able to contact Ralph and he said he'd take care of it for just the cost of shipping. What outstanding service from a great guy and great company.
