Very Odd

Was MDing this morning & I found this 1944 Silver War nickel, that was reading a 38 in all metal low trash setting. I never had a War nickel read like that or sound as high as it did. I tested 5 other War Nickels & they all read around the nickel range. Thought maybe they screwed up the batch for this one & added more than 35% silver content. I made a short video showing a 1944P War nickel I dug a while ago & the the 1944P I found this morning

M2- very interesting findings. Maybe a coin dealer can explain the tdi reading discrepancy.

Has to be something to do with the soil or other metal trash nearby. Coins are rigorously tested at the mint. imo, if you have a genuine coin that is off that much, you have a multimillion $ coin. (well, a LOT more than a war nickels worth of silver).

I've had several instances where quarters ring up at a solid, unwavering 14 (but still give the quarter sound).

I bet there was a dime or possibly a quarter near or possibly on top of that nickel that dominated with the 38 signal and maybe you didn't catch that particular coin but just saw the nickel. It would be interesting to go back to that same spot and sweep it again just for curiosities sake to see if there was another coin still there?.

that's what I had thought so I rescanned the hole & nothing else was there. Also in the video I made the nickel is reading 38 by itself. A guy on FB said he has dug a couple War nickels that read higher like this one. he thinks the same as I, that it has more silver content than a normal War Nickel.
