Vintage M-Scope 2 box

A friend of mine has an old M-scope two box detector that I was trying to get some info on it.. There's no batteries in it but appears to take 4 batteries (2 for each box) Does anyone know what the voltage is of the original batteries? I'm guessing that they are the old lantern batteries 6 volt . A wiring diagram would be a bonus... TIA
