It's been many years since I hunted a spot that has not been touched by a metal detector, but today, I hunted one of these places. My buddy got me permission to hunt a 100 year old lakefront home-cottage that sits on an acre and a half. The owners asked me to wait until they were done using the place. The home is surrounded by huge trees and sits 300 feet off the road. I fired up my Ex 11 about half way to the house and within ten feet, I found a 1919 wheat penny at 7 inches. I had the new pro coil on the detector and I was finding coins every three or four feet. Along the driveway in a 30 foot stretch, I found 22 wheat pennies and two mercury dimes. I ended up with 41 wheat pennies, 6 silver dimes, one silver quarter, and 3 buffalo nickles. I found more wheats and silver than I did clad. 90 coins total. I have to say that it's been a long time since I experienced hunting like this. I have only covered a fraction of the property. With a bit of sarcasim, I will have to wade through the wheat pennies before I start finding the Barbers that I know are here. I am now spoiled! I don't think I can go back to my parks. PS, the new pro coil is a keeper. It is light and I think it has a much narrower hot spot down the middle of the coil which makes it better in trash. I don't believe it is deeper, but with it's weight and separation abilities, it is great. I also just got an EXcelerator 4.5x7 and it is the best small coil I have ever used on a Explorer. For a small coil, it is deep. I found some older coins yesterday that were in extreme trash and they were all over 6 inches deep. Just when things are starting to pop, winter arrives. It's going to be a long winter! R.L.
