Warning for California beach hunters

Hi guys and gals,
I was talking with another member about sand being pumped in from the ocean to have more sand on the beaches, well about two months ago at Cardiff state beach two guys were detecting in the newly pumped sand and found a live hand grenade, they were never in the military cause they picked it up and carried it over to the life guard station and dropped it on the sand and said hey, look what we found. The life guard almost freaked out, there was around 60 people and kids real close showering off, a lot of people could have died that day, the life guard cleared the whole area for a hundred yards while calling the bomb squad. they said it was live and could have gone off, The two guys were chewed from one end of the beach to the other and could have been arrested for such a stupid act. a month later another bomb looking thing washed up causing the whole beach to be cleared. funny thing it never made the news. So be aware that these kind of things have be can be dredged up on the beach.

A buddy of mine and I went somewhere near that area a few years ago and the whole beach was loaded with expended 30 cal (probably military brass from WW2). Looked like M1 rifle stuff used for training. You just couldn't hunt the beach without digging scads of it..During that era, there were numerous firing ranges and artillery sites up and down the coast of California. With the price of metals today, you could probably make a living there.

Those guys probably deserved a tongue lashing, up to a point.
But they should also have been thanked for turning it in.
What if some kid would have found it instead and took it home ??

Sovguy, that's for sure! Like dirtydeeds said they needed a yelling at by the bomb squad, and glad they found it first, but by picking it up it might have been their last target. In the future if they find one, they back off keep people away till the bomb squad takes care of it.
