Water detecting with the AT Pro

PharmSearcher

New member
Yesterday I got on Garrett's website looking at the AT Pro and notice the picture of the guy metal detecting in the water all the way up to his armpits. Now his shoulders were dry and so was his head and ballcap. Now my question is, how is he recovering his targets. I have never hunted in the water. So do you just hold your breath and dive down? Or is there a recovery device that you rig up? How about doing this in a muddy bottom lake? What are your techniques?

:usaflag:You can purchase a sand scoop with different pole sizes...2 feet, 4 feet..even 6 feet I believe. Or you can dive down with a hand scoop. It's a lot easier detecting with the longer pole and your head above water I think.

You need a big scoop with about a 40 to 48 inch handle.
ID your target with your detector (coil ) I go from ankle to neck deep put the front of your foot up to the back of the coil,
take the coil away not your foot get the scoop to the front of your foot dig down at a 45 degree angle and if your lucky the first time
it should be in your scoop when you lift it up to check. If not start the same procedure again till you get it.
After a while you'll be able to do really well and dig all the junk and once in a while the glint of gold.
You'll never forget that first gold ring in that scoop

There are scoops that have a handle about 3' long, you push the scoop end into the sand with your foot. It has holes to drain the sand. Get a sturdy one if you get one.
