WATER inside again.....

Garrett hasn't made a statement that I know of Jamie. Just so much repeated send backs being posted that we fear putting her in the water. It maybe uncalled for worry. Hopefully Garrett can let you know something that you can share with us. We'd all like some reassurance on this one! We know we have a great land machine ...easy to run and pretty darn powerful. The chatter about leaking models coming right after the falsing issues could damper some sales. I'm not trashing the machine. I like it well so far. Just worried.

I showed them this thread. We need to get one back to them so they can assess. Is anyone sending one back currently?

I have one in for repair now for leaking which I bought from Kellyco in April.

I also think the problem may be in the button area.

But who knows, it could also be in the connections.

Read my other posts for more info if interested.

I am really on the fence as whether to sell the replacement when it comes back or give it another try.

My primary use for this MD will be in the water.

I hate sending things back and maybe I've been spoiled but this is the first MD I have ever had to return out of the seven I've owned.

Well..thanks for your input....all i can tell you is that they told me that they are working on correcting the problem......i love the unit...but dont think i could take another send back with down time of 10-14days summer is too short up north here

Same here, mine was sent back last week for water under the screen, leaked and died. This too is my second trip to the factory, first was for a faulty pro mode. That's 2 send ins in one month. I most likely will not be keeping the new replacement they are sending me and will give the model another year or so before I come back to the AT Pro. I do like the detector, very versatile, but I too purchased it for freshwater hunting not land hunting and it's so far been ruining my prime hunting time...

Hopefully the AT Pro does not turn out to be like the AT3 was. It to was an All Terrian metal detector that was waterproof to 5 feet...it failed miserably in the water because they simply could not fix the leaking issues. A redesigned model the AT4 was released but it also suffered the same leaky fate. This info was told be me by a friend who has been a metal detector dealer for over 40 years. Talks of leaking AT Pro's is bringing back nightmares of the AT3 and AT4.

Even if you aren't a Kellyco buyer...if you have an AT Pro that you just sent back to Garrett for this problem will you PM me your name/address. I want to give it to them so they can know specifically which ones relate to this issue on this thread. They are very conscientious and they really do care! I'm happy to help!

Perfect guys,
Thank you!! I'm sending the info over to Garrett now! Stay tuned!

Hey KellycoChick,
How's about asking them if they'll just do a recall on all units even if there now second owner units. I mean if they have the problem solved it would be in every ones best interest especially Garrett's. A lot of us have lost faith in the fact that they are waterproof. Mine has been fine so far but I'm sure many, many have been sold off because of the continuing fears. And just because mine doesn't leak now doesn't mean it won't in the future.
So get on their case and see if we can all send them back for whatever upgrade in waterproofing that they have. We should have that right if there is a factory flaw that they are aware of. Send them back now or at the end of our short seasons. But they all should be updated with the repair. Just a thought, and a good one at that. Let us know what they say about that idea. Thanks for contacting them and we'll see what they said, so keep us posted. Happy Hunting, Woodstock

Land hunters problems are pretty much problem free after the intial coil problem fix.....! Thats the upside to all this. I dont see a recall nessasary for all.As Garrett is doing excellent on their customer service side of this. I dont think there is any need to buden the company with any recall...that would be a disaster for all Garrett owners. Im assured they will take care of us as they always have!

See I wasn't lying or bashing Garrett or the AT Pro, I really do think it's an engineering flaw. Everyone thought Synthnut was crazy back in the winter time for saying the coil had falsing issues... turns out, it did! My new one should be here anyday now so we'll see if anything changed. It's not that it won't work now, it's that I'll be scared to try it...

thats how i feel , too scared to try in the water --it will cost a fortune to send back to Garrett from England!

And that was my point of a recall. If your an owner of an AT Pro and use it anywhere land or water you should be entitled to have it fixed so it doesn't have to ever be sent back. It is indeed a engineering flaw somewhere, in the seams or the control housing buttons. It maybe just in the manufacturing itself, over tightening fasteners during assembly could cause stripping of threads. Then they'll automatically loosen a bit and although they feel tight they'll leak eventually, most of us have stripped a fastener before, if you don't pull the whole threading out the fastener will stay in place but without enough tork to be air (or water) tight. But recalls don't have to be done right away unless you send it in right away.
That way it is fair to all owners and not just a few. We all love our AT Pro's and we should all have them updated equally. Remember, if they admit to finding a the problem and have found a permanent fix or solution then their also admitting to a manufacturing flaw and we all deserve a repair of that or those flaws because we own the detectors that were sold flawed from the start. How can the not do this? If yours doesn't leak now or does not makes no difference because it may leak in the future. It may hurt Garrett in their pocket book but not in their long standing reputation of putting their customers first and it'll show all that they stand by us. And it might encourage them to make sure these flaws will never happen again in the future units. Recalls are consumer protection and are not evil. Just a way to keep people coming back without any fears.
Happy Hunting to All, Woodstock

Understandable bother! I don't want to lose what I have as a land detector :detecting: ...But dang it...it's suppose to work on water too! :veryangry: And is that cheapy ring I might find in water worth losing the great land machine the AT Pro is??????. but Dang it ...it's suppose to work in the water :rage:

Sweet finds! ^_^

They paid the shipping......seems not everyone is treated the same. Just got mine back today.....I had to pay for shipping....grrr!! Return shipper is not clear whar repairs they did.

Weather permitting I'll be taking it in Lake Michigan this weekend...can't wait...fingers crossed.

hmm...dont know what to say on that one.....mine is less than 3wks old?

3 weeks...2 months....its not even been on the market a years so everyone should be treated the same.

Actually only 3 weeks old your dealer should have just replaced it for you.

OMG... I just registered here. I usually stay on another forum and have only heard of a couple cases of the leaking issue. I had no idea there are all kinds of people having a problems. Now I'm scared to get mine wet. Even though I haven't tested mine yet should I contact Garret about a fix?
