Week in Ocean City and Atlantic City

Well the week of vacation is over. Got out about 3 hours every day. Went to Atlantic City Monday, Wednesday, and Friday while my daughter was at dialysis. Spent the first hour or more all three days searching the wet sand. Found two pop tops and that is it. No coins at all. Went up to dry sand the remainder of time and found about $2.50 each day. I searched north of the pier the first day and south of pier last two days. There was one section south of pier I could not detect do to electrical interference. Paid $5.00 each day to park, so this put me in the hole.

Ocean city was alittle better hunted mostly wet sand. Also found about $2.50 each day plus 2 earrings. One is sterling and the other might be sterling according to my wife. Also one small ring that looks gold but is not and lastly a pendant with 18 nitros. I added a three piece travel straight rod on my Excal since last year. What a difference that made over the original shaft. I could hunt for three hours without switching arms. Now it's the long wait till my next beach visit. HH

I hunt both beaches and have the same results. This year finds we're not as good as past years. I found what I first thought was a gold ring was actually a sterling silver ring whit gold plating.

I parked at the lot on S. Chelsea and went in there. There is some kind of electrical interference going on on that area. Actually thought my detector went bad when I first arrived. The chatter was horrible. Moving up or down the beach a few hundred feet and the chattering went away. That is a horrible feeling. The front end loaders were moving sand around all week in Ocean City south of fishing Pier. Tried to follow after them but nothing to find. Hope next year is better. HH

Wet sand has not been good for me producing coins for me also. I hunt Ocean City south to Cape May area. I only hunt wet sand. Alot of the shore towns are going getting rid of the meters and using a kiosk to pay using bills or credit cards. So no use for change in the pockets. Wildwood has meters that you can pay using your smartphone. My junk jewelry finds are also down this year. But on the good side my gold count is up.. Also Ocean City and Atlantic City are big spots for people to detect might explain the lack of finds.....

That stinks the clads are drying up for you. I noticed that at one of my favorite gravel playgrounds at a local school. It was easy to go in there and detect about $5 in quick clads in no time due to just kicking the pea gravel around with your foot. Last time I was there I hardly got any coins (this was a while back). I thought somebody beat me there this time but then a friend mentioned that most schools now are using pre-paid cards for ordering lunches.

I don't know about you guys, but for me a card is never going to replace cash. Something about seeing and holding the money in your hand. If it's just a number on a computer somewhere for one thing I think people tend to spend more than they should, because they can't physically see the money shrinking in their wallet as they spend the cash.

For us, it won't change.

But I have to wonder about a generation being raised who are used to using plastic for everything.

Its possible the cashless society really might come to pass one day.
