Weekend Finds.

James N.D.

New member
This weekend it sure was a tough one to hit much silver but there was a lot of good stuff found though. I was out with 2 other hunters on Saturday. Dale found a bunch of Wheats,4 Indians,a couple silver Roosevelts,a few Merc's,a Walker,a Sterling Pin,and a Barber Dime. Dan found a few Wheats,a New York World's Fair Token,a silver Roosevelt Dime, and a Mercury Dime. All together we had something around 15 silver on Saturday with Dale having most of it. I found 6 silver for the weekend which were 6 Mercury Dimes dated 1928,1934-d,1936,1940,1942-d,and 1944-d. I found 2 Nickels which included a Buffalo dated 1917 which was high grade but the ground formed a bubble on the head of it and when I tried removing it, I accidentally took some of the head off. The other Nickel was a Jefferson dated 1941-s. I found a Good Luck Token from Argyle, Minn also. I found 7 Indians this weekend dated 1891,1898,(2)1900,1901,1902,and 1907. I also found another 36 Wheats dated No Date,1911,(2)1914,1917-s,1919,(2)1920,1924,(2)1926-d,1930,1930-d,1934,1936-d,1937,1940-d,1941-d,(4)1944,(3)1944-d,1945-d,1946-d,1947-d,1950-d,1953,1953-d,(2)1955-d,(2)1956-d,and 1958-d. I also found 1 Canadian Penny dated 1942. I found a few Misc. Items that include 1 Copper Ring, 1 Copper Ring with Foreign Writing on it, 1 Mickey Mouse Ring from the 1930's (it is the first Mickey Mouse Ring and books between $75 to $150.),an old Eveready Amperes Meter that has a Pat. Date of Aug. 9, 1910, and 2 different Cuff Links. Hope I can do better next weekend as far as Silver goes but sure had fun digging what I did get. Good Luck and HH to you all during the week if you get out and the pics are below.[attachment 31578 Silver.jpg][attachment 31577 Nickels.jpg][attachment 31574 GoodLuckToken.jpg][attachment 31575 Indians.jpg][attachment 31581 WheatsandCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 31576 Misc..jpg]

Another nice assortment of everything imaginable and it sounds as if all of you did very well this weekend. Nice hunting and keep it up. We love to see your pictures of finds.

The thrill of the hunt is for the most part fun but you do occasionally get a bit frustrated if you start off doing poor. But like I say to myself, just keep hard at it and you will find what you are seeking. Good Luck to you JB on your outing and hope to see some nice finds.

Sunday was especially a warm one and I couldn't give it my all. I decided after finding a few more coins I would give it up until next weekend and I quit detecting around 6pm. (Didn't get started until about 12:30). Just hope it is cooler out next weekend and can hit a hot spot that has more than enough silver in it.

You just keep on finding the neat stuff James.........:) Nice going once again. Don't you feel a little bit embarrassed though showing most of us up all the time? Yeah right..........:) Keep up the great finds and posts James. It's fellows like you who keep making the rest of us wanting to get out there and maybe get as lucky as you and maybe finding some prime places to detect like you have found. HH.

Eddie

Funny thing is these places aren't really prime spots. I can tell you one thing though, you will know when I do hit a prime spot when I have a huge pile of Silver and such. Been working heavily hunted areas so far and I hope to hit a few HorseTracks this fall when the crops start coming off of the fields.

Nice haul there! Question: do you do any research to find these sites (like this one) or just pick one that you think will yield based on looks, etc. Is this a park where you found these? I hit a small area of land near an old train station yesterday and basically got skunked except for a couple wheaties -- with the Explorer I thought even if the place had been pounded I would find some good things, but nada! :rage: I need to learn how to do research to find some good new sites.

But this site is a Park,Fairgrounds. A lot of it has been filled so one could just about imagine what is laying in the ground for coins. I do research and this is where you will find hidden spots that no one has hit before and there is nothing like a virgin site. Thanks for the post and Good Luck with your research and HH.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. How do you determine whether it's been filled or if the stratigraphy of a site's been disturbed?

Also as far as research, what do you look for? My area, though in the suburbs, is quite developed now, so even if you find that an old hotel or something was somewhere, someone has probably put a house or apartment building there now. Of course the roads, sidewalks, and ubiquitous pavers also create obstacles. My biggest problem is in finding undisturbed soil as it seems that most parks, etc. seem to have been filled in or messed about with at some point by someone.

I guess I feel a little frustrated because everyone says "do the research," but I'm not really sure where to start or what to look for. Any tips on this would be appreciated.....feel free to PM or email me.

Regards, Erik
