Weird hunt gave up a silver slam but NO wheaties.

Finally got an afternoon of hunting in. Geez my hunt time has dwindled this year.

I met up with the niterider_58 (theYeti)...at this place. I've only been there 6 times now...and two of those times were with Guvner last year.

It's a strange park where 6" of fill dirt can make an appearence at any time and at anywhere. Both Guvner and I dug screwcaps in excess of 12" last year less than 10 feet apart.:detecting: Funny thing was... that I dug deep mercs on both sides of the fill strip?? The fill literally shows up all over the place and it gets very annoying.

Anyway...Yeti always tells me to pick a place for us to start. I have a knack of seeming to start in a spot that gives up something quickly...then not much afterwards.
Well it happened again...only this time the Yeti benefited from my psychic work. The first thing he dug was a seated dime...and from only about 4" down!!

Less than 5 minutes into the hunt I got a deepie signal and it repeated everywhere. It was a no brainer silver hit that had just simply been walked over becuse of the depth.
I called over the Yeti...then dug a deep 8" plug. I ran the probe and sure enough...same nice silver hit. After diggin another 2"+ more dirt out of the way...I saw the glint of silver. I was thinking seated since he had just popped one out. From over 10" down came the mercury dime.
Weird...seated at 4"...then a merc from 10".:stars:

About 45 minutes later I got another very deep hit...and it too sounded good. While it wasn't a "repeater"...it sounded so sweet in a couple of spots...I knew it was going to be silver.
Again from 10" down came a silver dime...this time a 1907 Barber.

At this point we had 3 silver dimes and neither of us had dug a wheatie yet. I didn't know it yet...but that wasn't going to change...and the day would get better.

The yeti popped out another merc or two...then headed for home.

I continued to hunt for another hour or so...and got a nice roosey pocket spill in a bunch of fill dirt from again 10" down.
At this point I've got 4 silver in my pouch (silver dime trifecta) and still haven't dug a wheatie....my kind of hunt.:super:

Well right at the end of the hunt I got a very sweet hit and it had the mellow warbly tones I love....and the depth meter was buried. I'm thinkin..."silver dime grand slam"...and this has to be a seated dime.

I dug a monster plug about 7" deep and ran the probe...nothin'??

I then dug another big chunk out...at least 2" or more...and ran the probe again. It screamed this time. :smoke:

After another 2" of dirt came out...I saw the glimmer of silver...but is WASN'T what I expected. From 11" down came a freakin' 1944 Washington quarter.
Don't get me wrong...I am not complaining about it....but was really thinking it was going to be a seated dime. Oh well...at least I got a silver grand slam with 2 roosey's....a merc...a barber...and the washington quarter.

I also found a sterling silver Skull pendant...an old brooch missing the center stone....the ancient peacock hat pin...the St. Christophers charm....the dainty little broken sterling ID bracelet....and the biggest letdown of the day...the colorful good luck horseshoe charm from 14" down that I thought for sure was silver.:smoke:

As always...each time I come here...the park is crazy...a seated dime for the Yeti at 4"....and a 1944 Washington quarter at 11" for me.
Even crazier is the fact that I never did dig a wheatie....and neither did my Himalayan friend. 5 Silver coins for me from 10"+ down...and NO wheaties...I'll take that ratio any day of the week.

Thanks for viewing...and good luck on your next hunt.

WOW Bryce , Huge Congrats on the Silver .
It was an Excellent Day . Love all the old jewelry

Terri

Congratulations Bryce on some great finds.
Glad it is warming up for you guys back east
and you can get some hunting in..... too bad
your work schedule won't allow you as much
time as you need this year.At least you are working!!
Enjoy reading your posts. Gold Nuggets:nopity:

Nice finds Bryce
I believe that hat pin is a Case Tractor advertisment hat pin. It looks like a Case Tractor watch fob( eagle perched on the world globe) that I have found in the past...........
Good hunt....................Hombre

WOW Bryce
Like i said before,,, You the man!!!!
That stuff happens to me all the time, and i just don't understand,, Ill dig 1945 wheaties at 10 or 11 inches... Then walk 10 feet and find indian's at 4 :rage: Keep it up for sure brotha!!!!
Derrell

nice finds Bryce..man i gotta give your settings a try..you always have success with them..keep your posts coming!!:please:

Great digs Bryce...Always a great time when that barber girl come out to play. I see you make reference to a Yeti in your area I call my nephew the yeti some times as he is 6ft 8 and 280 pounds of metal detecting fury. hehe. your doin great as usually its all wheats and no silver how does a guy keep up with that? best of luck to ya.

Thanks bro. I'm sure the next time out I'll dig 10 wheaties and no silver:biggrin:
As for the Yeti...I gave him that name last year when we were hunting in the snow. He had 10 layers of clothing on....10 lbs of mud on his boots and hands....and 5 lbs of snot caked and frozen to his face:bouncy:

Thanks buddy. I will hope to find some more goodies the next trip out...just not sure when it will be,
As for my settings...continue to use what works for you. If you want to give mine a shot sometime...I hope they do well for you.
They do take some getting used to...but they have produced pretty well.
Take care

Thanks Double D. You should have seen the stupid cocky look on my face when I had the huge hole dug...then ran the probe and it sang:cool:
The cocky look soon turned into a look of stupidity once the aluminum horseshoe charm showed up at 14" down though:smoke:

Thanks Doug. I feel your pain my friend. Cabin fever set in with me 6 weeks ago...so I'm thankful I have gotten out a few times now.
I hope the weather cooperates with you soon. Good luck when you do get to hunt.

Thanks Hombre. You are right about the hat pin. Someone pm'ed me a link...and in fact it's very sought after. Kinda' resembles a peacock though:detecting:

Thanks G.N.
Very good point....at least I have a job to be thankful for. The economy is a little nutty right now.
I'll hunt as much as I can though.
