Well, I did it!

I've got an Omega 8000 3 coil package due to arrive on Mon. from Richard at Backwoods Detectors. Love my F 75 LTD, but just had to see what this detector was all about. I liked what I see posted and comments via pm's from a couple of guys in my neck of the woods. We have a trip coming up and I'll see how it does on a few sites I've hunted with the F 75 and 75 LTD in that area. Take care everyone. HH jim tn

As I said in another post, I alomst feel guilty using this detector. I cannot think of any improvement that I would suggest. It has the perfect balance of performance and function and at the price... well, it is an incredible deal. I think Dave Johnson said that it is his favorite of all the FT detectors and now I see why.

I really like the 11" coil on it but the 10" is no slouch, they are both deep. My buddy has a minnie buried at 10", its been there for 20+ years and the Omega with the 10" coil hits it and IDs it.

I think you are going to be amazed with the O8K, it is a really FUN detector that also makes great finds. I cannot wait to hear what you think of it.

is it like's Deep larger Brass!!

On the smaller targets if you're in 2 tone sens wide open pay close attention to the tight tone jump faint hit's..It's usually a good target but on the edge of detection depth..
If you're in 1 tone the deepies will be a feathery broken sound..

Machine does have some punch especially on the 99 sens which is very doable on the omega since it gets pretty quite while sweeping the coil..I always run mine on 99 sens and 2 tone mostly some times 1 tone disc just enough to knock out the bothersome nails and that varies from site to site...

Good luck with it..

The Fisher F75 and F75 LTD are both very good detectors. The teknetics T[sup]2[/sup] is also a very good detector. That said, you have to spend a little time to get comfortable with the and detector, but the Omega and the three coils are certainly going to be quite impressive.

Yes, the 11" BiAxial a very good coil as you are well aware of, but be kind enough to spend ample search time with the stock 10" concentric coil, and then an equal amount of time with the dandy little 5" round DD coil. It provides very impressive depth for me, even in "bad ground" conditions. If you have any questions, just ask away here on the forums. I always run with the highest Sensitivity level I possibly can, and if not in All Metal 'Auto-Tune' setting I'll hunt in the motion-based Discriminate mode with either d2 or d4 Tone ID selection.

I do use my 11" coil, but I get great performance in the trashier sites I frequent using the 5" DD and stock 10" elliptical concentric coils.

Happy Hunting and keep us posted.

Monte, thanks much. I had already made the decision to spend a good bit of time right off with the 10" concentric coil. I have the 5" DD for my LTD and know about it. On the sites I hunt, the 5" DD does the majority of the work. Glad to see you are posting again and hopefully you continue to get better with each passing day. HH jim tn

Jim,
I dont have the LTDs or a T2, but I do have other detectors I like to hunt with....but....somehow....I keep winding up with the Omega in my hand. Dont know how it happens, but it keeps finding stuff.

That is kinda what I was seeing and hearing too, Furious T. I know what my LTD will and can do and I just wanted to try something different and from what I see posted, fun to swing. HH jim tn

Jim having both the F75 LTD and the Omega I think you'll find them to be a nice compliment. The Omega is more stable in EMI, far less jumpy TID (it's pretty solid actually) and has nice modulated audio tones to pick the deepies out. My only concern with the Omega is I feel the LTD is a fair bit deeper...BUT ultimate depth isn't always required. About the deepest coin sized target I've found with the O8 was an 8" wheatie, and the audio was very faint (TID was locked on). I found a measured 11" deep SLQ with the F75 LTD in BP mode. Would the O8 have hit it....I honestly don't know if it would've in my soil, but I'd sure like to find out :bouncy:

Brian, I didn't get it with the expectations of it being deeper then my LTD...as you probably didn't either. I wanted to try something with the potential of having decent depth, a different frequency and maybe/hopefully, working better in some of my emi plagued spots then my LTD does. I am going to give it a good workout, so we shall see. HH jim tn

Mr. Monte: In your opinion is the Omega better than the T2, or the F75 series detectors..Or about the same for a lot less money.
It is my 'opinion" that the Omega is one heck of a fun detector to use for a wide-range of detecting needs, and I prefer it with the stock 10' concentric coil to my T[sup]2[/sup], and really like my Omega w/5" DD for the nasty trash areas.

Is the T[sup]2[/sup] a bit deeper detecting than my Omega? On occasion it has been, but on other comparisons the Omega bested the T[sup]2[/sup]. They are just 'different' enough to compliment each other, if someone wanted two different detectors.

You hit spot on one of my concerns... Is the Omega, F75, T2, all so close that if you own either one ?. Would you really need another along that same line ???.

Is one, or the other better for coin shooting ?. Is one or the other more stable ?. Is one, or the other better in trashy parks?. I coin hunt only. I know there are some differences, but over all I wondered how much difference. Thank you for the response Monte..always appreciate your knowlege and know how.
