West Coast and The E-Trec???

Let me begin with the fact that I'm new to Minelab, so far I love it, we had our struggle for a bit but I'm learning it.
I've been an XLT owner since 98 got all the coils except the "original" bigfoot, and have made some pretty good finds for the most part.
Anyway, I damn near traded this thing in when I first got it, not the machines fault but mine. It was way too much noise for me.
Well on the 26th thru the 4th of July I'm taking the boys on a west coast trip, Myself my 13yo 11yo and the old man.
The old man pretty much took over my XLT, My boys have the ace 250 with stock coil and the DD 10X15, along with the Fisher 1236 X2 stock coil.
I have the Sunray Probe, Stealth 5", the stock coil and the 10X15 SEF for the E-Trec, I was just wondering if I could get a little help from anyone before I head out,
Were heading out from Tooele, Ut to Pacific Beach down by San Diego first, then Mission beach, then from there were winging it. My plan is to head all the way up the coast to Washington and come down through Idaho.
I'm open to ANY advice as to where to go, where not to go, ect.. We plan to camp where its good and travel wherever our hearts desire.
Mainly metal detecting the beaches, also If you could give me a few tips to use with the E-trec, with the coils I have or just some useful advise against the beach I would appreciate it.
Like I said I'm new to this detector, I understand it but it still pulls the curtain on me for sure. I have been reading up on the detectors I own vs the beaches but I wanna ask those who are first hand experienced with the beaches.

Hey Larry, PB is one of my favorite beaches here in SD. It gets pounded by the locals, myself included, but there are always new goodies being lost or washed in by surf. Give me a shout when you get close. Terry

My wife and I are going to be down in So Cal a few times this summer/fall and I am aching to get in some shallow water /underwater hunting.

You're coming at the right time for the beaches. Low tides 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th. All in the early am. I don't detect San Diego beaches much but do hit Santa Monica and Zuma which are further up the coast. I have an E-Trac but use my Explorer 2 with a Wot coil for the beach. No real reason other than I don't use a probe on the beach so my Explorer is always setup with my WOT coil.

I'm normally in manual sensitivity, in the low to mid 20's for the wet sand and in the dry sand I'm usually around 24 to 26. I feel coverage is the name of the game at the beach so I'd use the largest coil you have but your stock coil will work great to. I like to work the blanket line down to the water. I also use ferrous at the beach, zero discrimination, and I dig everything except iron (I sometimes will dig the iron depending how it sounds). Lots of the regulars pass up the shallow zincs, but I usually dig them too. Get yourself a long handled sandscoop if you can.

If your hunting beaches with an E-Trac make sure you bring some good digging tools !

I just got back from hunting a beach in Maine and I was digging "small craters" to recover some of my targets !

Because of the ET's depth capability - I dug approx. seven or eight 100 yr. + old coins and two pieces of sterling silver jewelry from this very heavily hunted area.

Terry, I hear mission beach is a pretty good beach to hang out at? I think the boys would like to ride the rides, check out the ladies.. etc..
I was warned about Black beach, but I just might cruise by there and see the looks on their faces hahahaha
Anyway, what other beaches are fun to play around at? Were out to have a good time, so what do you suggest?..

Hi Larry, The crowds go to Mission Beach so there are always new items going into the sand there. I like PB better, no reason for it except I have been lucky there. I dug way down this past week, 2-3 inches! and pulled a nice 23" 14K gold chain out from the depths, my first, and it read 12/08 and I just new it was another pull tab so be warned, dig it even if you know it is trash. Both north and south of the Crystal pier in PB is good. Don't expect a lot of coins. In terms of the"scenery" for your boys, it is all good! Our club meeting is friday night and you are welcome to attend. The talk is on beach hunting by one of the best, he always has awesome finds. HH Terry
