Wet Ground

I agree with everyone that the wet ground really helps, something else I've noticed over the years is that just after dawn and an hour prior to dark I seem to get better targets and depth. I cant back this up or support this with any facts or documentation but I really like hunting those times of the day due to the higher amounts of hits. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

Moist ground does help with depth and make the target signals come through better. When the ground is saturated depth goes out the door and iron starts sounding good too. I have noticed that the first target and the last targets I dig are usually the best finds. Weird huh?

That is how it has been for me lately. Just like fishing.

Not sure the reason why though.

I think your findings are correct and the reason may be that in the soil moisture rises up in the cool of the evening and overnight. Farmers who plant in the daytime worry about the seeds drying out. Usually overnight the moisture comes up and will help the seeds sprout. After sunup the wind and sun dry out the top layer of soil.

thats called a wick effect. Iv used the same idea for hydropnic peppers. the sun a wind during the day would cause the grow media to wick more water from my solution tank causing a an increase in the ppm.
that makes me think about how the ph. can change with the amount of water in the soil. I would think that more water would dilute the mineral content and make the detector run better in high moisture ground.

interesting to ponder these kind of topics.
