I am going to make my own scoop and need to know what would be the best gage stainless to use. It will be used on Florida beaches and also in ohio fresh water. Thanks for any help. Ridgerunner.

It ain't the bucket... in hard Florida sand the handles break off... that's the tough part...

Thanks Dig, I hadnt even thought about the handle. Russ.
Several pounds can be saved by attaching an aluminum handle to a stainless scoop.
Bracing design, where the handle attaches to the bucket of the scoop is important.
The aluminum pipe I used has withstood some heavy digging and floats upright with the piece of foam floaty I glued to it.
