I am going to make my own scoop and need to know what would be the best gage stainless to use. It will be used on Florida beaches and also in ohio fresh water. Thanks for any help. Ridgerunner.

14 - .0747
16 - .0598
Both will work, 14 is the standard

For a light handle option...I use 6061 Aluminum or 6063 Aluminum if i am gonna bend the handle. Good luck on the scoop and remember you cant make an omelet......Without breaking a few eggs.

Several pounds can be saved by attaching an aluminum handle to a stainless scoop.

Bracing design, where the handle attaches to the bucket of the scoop is important.

The aluminum pipe I used has withstood some heavy digging and floats upright with the piece of foam floaty I glued to it.
