What Headphones do you use for Exp SE?

Jim D

New member
Hello guys:
What headphones do you feel do a excellent job when hunting with the Minelab Explorer or E-trac?
Jim D

RATS have been the best I have found and I have tried a bunch.

Sunray Pro Golds (hands down)---and I've tried about every brand known to mankind!--------Del

I'll get in line with Del......... the golds are great.

I have to agree... the Golds have been an excellent choice for me too. But making a choice isnt easy with all the good ones in the same price range.

:usaflag:So will the set that I will receive with my new Explorer be crap or are you guys just finicky? Also, I am at a bit of a disadvantage due to being totally deaf in my right ear. Does anyone else have similar issues and is there a set of headphones out there that would suit me better with this slight disability?

The headphones are very comfortable and extremely durable - have had a pair for 10 years and only had to replace the cord once - still going strong!

I now use "Rats" and I found them to be more baser that the killer bees I had previously but they are very comfortable. I like both brands.

I have tried multiple brands and there are some good ones depending on what your ears prefer. Me personally...I want to hear the highest pitch "tinkling" sound as I can over deep silver.

The Sunray Pro Golds give me the sweetest "high warble" over deep silver. In fact...I have three pairs of them...that's how much I like them.

McDave.... those Koss phones are matched to the explorer... but cheaply made in my honest opinion. They dont have a was to adjust for your hearing problem but are good and loud and clear. You can almost turn them down. They come with a stright plug... which is stupid since the wire almost right away breaks and starts pulling out. Dont bother calling Koss... there is NO help there.... just buy an angle connector from radio shack before you get started. I do like the sound, but wanted a pair i could adjust on both sides. I also couldnt tell really deep targets from shallow ones without using gain of 7 for modulation.... hey but that worked for me. Broke or not ive used them for a couple of years they arent that bad since they are included with the detector. I just changed to the Pros.... im darn happy with them.

McDave----You asked about the quality of the h.p.'s that come with your new Explorer.----The UR30 headphones (ones that come with it) are good enough h.p.'s except they don't have a volume control on them .----For the life of me, I have NEVER been able to understand why ANY detector manufacturer would provide h.p.'s without volume controls.----I guess you could say that at least Minelab DOES provide a headphone with the Explorers/Etracs (a lot of other detector manufacturers do not).-----In any case, I don't use the UR30's & opt for the Sunray Pro Golds (an excellent "marriage" with the Explorers/Etracs--for several reasons).----I guess I should state that I always max out my volume on all my detectors & control the volume thru the control knobs on each (individual) h.p. ear cup.-----You say you have impaired hearing in one ear--this method would work great for you also. -----------Del

i use grey ghost headphones the koss that came with my se just dont fit my head way to loose good soud but just not good fit the grey ghost got the seperate volume controls and fit great

:usaflag:Thanks guys, wow...$130 for the Sunray Pro Gold HP's. I better not tell my wife if I buy those. Wait..I still have to break the news about buying a new Explorer. Anybody need a roommate?:starwars:

you might want to consider the black widow. They are awesome. I have had them for several months and they have great quality sound with controls on both ears

THANKS :clapping:
to all you guys that has given your thoughts in on this thread about headphones.
anyone else want to chime in,feel free.
McDave,, I to have hearing impairment (use a hearing aid) in my left ear so I,m wanting
volume controlls for both ears so I can turn the left volume all the way up.
Like Bryce said I want to hear those sweet sounds of silver too!
Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
