All the beautiful old coins you see posted on this site? Certainly has gotten my attention all these years.
My take... I have hunted a lot of older spots around me and found some silver with my machines. I know of no one around me that metal detects, so Im fairly by myself as far as anyone to talk with and compare notes. They are some around, I havent seen them, but have been told of them. My home town goes back into the late 1700s when it was just a fort here, but all that area is concreted and paved over now. No real population here until the late 1800,early 1900s. So Ive hunted with my other machines for quite a few years now. My dad hunted heavily back in the 80s and 90s, found a lot of silver. So, I asked myself, are there any more coins at these sites I have permission to hunt. I just plain dont know, I still find wheaties . Where is the silver?? So, it cost me a great deal, money wise, and its gonna cost me a great deal time wise ( Im sure at least a year or more from what I read) to really become proficient with the E-Trac.
So, this is probably my last effort here for my detecting career. I was looking for a machine that works well in the modern trash as well as old trash (iron). Also we have a river here, that has flooded areas many times over the years, until they put up a levee system and dam to keep the river back during these times of flood, so, a deep seeking machine is needed as well because of the deposit of silt/dirt from those earlier floods.
Im thinking, with the Old Spainish influence here in Louisiana and French, I just have a gut feeling there has to be something still out there to be found.
So maybe it was time to try a new machine, a new brand of machine (to me), not that I dislike my others. Maybe to give me a different insight and think of things differently.
This is why I ordered an E-Trac.
Thanks,
John
Oh, keep it low and slow
