What is the best Headphones

I am wonder if I should just get a set of Gray Ghost, or there better ones out there. Then which one. I got a set of Koss that came with SE and they have already gone bad. I see a few more brands out there, but I want a set that will last. Plus I am kinda hard of hearing too. You guys got some suggestions for me. Thanks Bayrat

I would recommend The sunray pro gold,or the Ultimate gray ghosts.
I also am wanting to get a new pair.
Richard at Backwoods detector sales,is selling several in the detector accesories forum.

I prefer the KIller B's Wasp headphones. They are very durable and light weight with dual volume control. I tried most of the others and now own 3 pairs of Killer B's.

Hey Bayrat, I feel your pain. I have a set of Killer Bee's. And also bad hearing from busted eardrums back in 69 . I just ordered a set of koss industrial 99s. They are full range and don't have the limiter my Bee's do. The limiter is a good idea for folks with full range hearing, but to me, the clipped effect of the limiter causes less separation between the sounds, Especially on silver. With bad hearing, dual volume is a must. But I would see if you could try out a set with the limiter feature before you buy to see if they work for you. Its not that the Killer Bee's are bad, they are an excellent headphone, just that it comes down to what works best for you.

Headphones do make a big difference in what and how we hear targets. I have an old whites pair i use if im in a junky area.... an area that im not going to get more than 7" depth. They give less noise, i can adjust the volume, and most of all they give me modulation at gain 9. I can deffently tell a deep coin. For cleaner spots i use the ML's, because they are louder and i can hear those deep coins better, but i have to adjust the gain to 7 to give me the same modulation. I can tell one coin from the other better with the whites as well. For me id have to have a pair that give me the both worlds. If you hunt with someone or are a club member most of the time they will swap headphones with you.

What about Rat phones? What happened to those guys? They still around, anyone use them? I like the look of their new model.

Headphones get ask quite a bit which is the best set, but. Mostly it is what you get used to. Myself I am very hard of hearing so on my Explorers and E-Trac I do need a set that is loud and yet good tone to them and found the Troy Pros work the best for me as they are loud and great tones to them. The problem is finding these as none have been made for a while and don't know when some will be. My hunting Buddie James ND has to set of the Gray Ghost NDT and he feels these are the best while another hunting buddy has a set of the Gray Ghost Ultimates and he feels these are the best for him. Now one of our club members tried several different ones I had here and felt the Sun Ray Pro gold where the best for him of the different one he tried. One my Sovereign the Timberwolfs are the ones I will use on it, but on the Explorer they are not loud enough, so I have to use my Troy Pros on it. When it comes down to what is the best only you can tell that, but if you need more volume because of bad hearing the Troy Pros are the loudest, good hearing the Sun Ray Pro Gold, Gray Ghost NDT or the Ultimates seem to be the more popular ones around here.

Rick Viola is no longer in the headphone business.

Too bad. I like the sound, comfort and fit of my MSA Rats better than any other phones I've used.

The downside is they don't fold up the way my Grey Ghosts do. Also maybe a little less sturdy than some others. I've had to mail them in twice for repair in the 4-5 months I've had them. Fortunately Rick still has repair parts in stock and has been willing to make repairs for a small charge.

R.I.P. Ratphones...

One of the problem is getting to try out products before you buy it. A friend of my is coming into town today with a set of Killer Bees for me to try. I really like the Grey Ghost Ultimate on what I have read about them. I Really want to Thank Everybody for the input. Rat Headphones I like the name of those.

I have original Gray Ghost and Gray Ghost NDTs and find both are excellent with my bad hearing. A few years ago, through rough use, I broke the cord on my originals and sent them back for repair. They replaced the cord and sent them back free of charge

I LAKE SUN RAY GOLD -BENT USING THEM FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS:twodetecting:

Well BAYRAT76 I own a pair of gray ghost originals for the last 3 years and thay have been banged against tree's,dropped, sat on ect and there not pretty anymore but thay work as good as the day i bought them so i would most definitely buy another pair.

I think it's between the Gray ghost and the Killer B's now, I hear both are loud and crisp too. Plus service is great on both. Now it's pricing.

I have a used pair of
Rats and they worklike new. I like sunrays too. Whatever works for you is best bud. good luck

Bummed to hear that the Relic and Treasure (RaT) phones aren't being made. I really like my MSA pair over my pair of Sun Ray Golds (which I have as backup). Are the Sun Ray Golds and the Killer B's the same phones re-branded?
