EggszaklyCounterfeit plate mold by the looks of it
Interesting find….looks like a mold for counterfieting to me also.
Maybe the other part is nearby
I've had it for about 30 years the man that found it was in his 90s and had went back to his boyhood home which was at the foot of the mountain and while there he decided to walk up the mountain behind the home and that's when he discovered this item but he also found what he said looked like acorn shaped objects that were also heavy for their size which makes me wonder could that have been what they intended to melt down. I believe what ever it is or was to be used for it is pretty old and may date back maybe before the Civil War. I can't help but wonder who and how did someone make it and it end up where it was.
It would interesting if you could go back to the area if you know where it is and can access it…I've had it for about 30 years the man that found it was in his 90s and had went back to his boyhood home which was at the foot of the mountain and while there he decided to walk up the mountain behind the home and that's when he discovered this item but he also found what he said looked like acorn shaped objects that were also heavy for their size which makes me wonder could that have been what they intended to melt down. No he was just walking around where I suppose he grew up and decided to go up the mountain and my understanding found it down in some rocks. I knew the old man and he was respected in the community by all who knew him and he ran a small country store for years. He was already in his 90s when I met him so I'm not sure how old he was when he found it. He was good friends with my wife's grandma and her husband and that's where most of the information comes from that I have. I would have loved to have talked to him about the find but by the time It was offered to me he had died.He originally gave it to my wife's grandmother's husband who new I was curious about it because back then I was hunting arrowheads and liked old stuff. When I heard about the acorn shaped objects I wonder if they could have been mini balls. It would interesting if you could go back to the area if you know where it is and can access it…
Hard to tell what else could be there.
I agree with you of it possibly being pre civil war area.
Was the old man metal detecting when he found it?
That is quite the intriguing find!
Could be awesome to detect the area.No he was just walking around where I suppose he grew up and decided to go up the mountain and my understanding found it down in some rocks. I agree it was probably like finding a needle in a haystack but I trust Mr Dee found it where and how he found it he was a very honest and humble man.I always wondered how old the piece is and why it was there but I guess it will remain a mystery. That is interesting how he just happened to find it among some rocks.
Too bad you do not have any more details.
I am curious about those other things he mentioned finding also.
They could have been lead pieces which would explain the weight for their size.
This is probably the strangest find I have seen on this forum especially with the circumstances of how it was found…. Makes you wonder, that’s for sure!
Don’t take it that I do not believe your story…. Just very intriguing to me.I agree it was probably like finding a needle in a haystack but I trust Mr Dee found it where and how he found it he was a very honest and humble man.I always wondered how old the piece is and why it was there but I guess it will remain a mystery.
I'd bet the other half is near where that one was found. Very ccollect
It is unique because I have never seen another one but I'm sure there has to be others.I'd bet the other half is near where that one was found. Very collectable.
