What is your Favorite Beach detector and why???

I have two... the Whites Dual Field because of its depth and very good pinpointing... the PI is top dog on the beach for depth...

I recently purchased a Minelab Sovereign GT and have fallen in love with it... it takes me where I can't or won't go with my PI which is iron infested area's of a beach...

I have the best of both worlds now :)

i use a whites surf PI pro, but my all time favourite beach detector would have to be a Arado 95. arado probably made the worlds best machines throughout the 70's and 80's. i grew up using manual detectors, and wish they still made them today. the company still makes detectors but gave up making hobby machines to concentrate on machines for the military. guess that's why i like PI's, they tell you everything that's going on in the ground beneath your feet

Did I say that Max? I sure did and I love the Sovereign... I haven't taken the DF out my last 4 hunts now... I'll use it this winter...

Jerry... save the DF, I wouldn't sell it unless the PI is not for you... I started with a PI water hunting so I love it... the PI is not for everyone....

Already decided not to sell it, Craig. I took it in the water a couple of times at low tide when the waves weren't so bad and wasn't finding the junk. But I wasn't finding any good targets either. Just wrong sand conditions I guess as nobody has been finding anything much in or out of the water. I still don't think I will ever be able to hear the kind of tiny changes in threshold that you, Cupajoe and others are hearing when you find the really deep ones though. But I will continue to work with it in the right areas--in the water far enough out to leave the Bobby Pins behind. Sorry for the threadjack, dirtdigginlady. My favorite beach detector that I have right now is the Sov GT and I'm trying to make a final decision on another water detector. Looking very hard at the Excal but also the BHID300 amd CZ21. Really need to just pull the trigger and buy one and get busy with it.

Excalibur for me. It is great on dry sand, wet sand and in the water. I've used several others and I can safely say that it is the best beach and water detector that I have ever used.

I have two that I use in fresh water .
The BHID that will be sent in this winter for the bigger coil upgrade and the Detector Pro Wader.
I'm in the process of buying the Tesoro Tiger Shark .
Recently sold the Surf PI PRO.

I like my DF but its the first water machine I've owned. I also use an old coinmaster and looking to up grade that so I can stand a chance in the dry with out going crazy with the PI:beers:

Jerry... turn up the threshold if you are having problems hearing the deeper stuff... don't feel bad about not finding much... our beaches have been sanded in for 2 years now and gold is scarce... the only problem I have with my DF is the headphones... when its windy out its hard to hear the good targets...

Nah... lol... PI for me first the Sovereign second best :) I have the best of both worlds now ;)

The mine lab sov gt has never let the Daddy Rabbit down. It will keep Daddy Rabbit digging many holes.

Etrac for the wet/dry with the 15x12 or 12x10 SEF as its deeper and recovers from iron null faster than the excal or sov(i have one just in case) also the whites DF, for the water i use excalibur ll or DF, lately in the dry for fresh drops i have been using the fisher F75, can do the same amount of sand in half the time that i can with the Etrac due to its recovery speed which means more finds per hour, as winter aproaches and finds are thiner in the dry i'll be back to the etrac to get the bits i missed with the fast fisher

Well I use my DF PI not getting anything good besides bigger arms. I search the dry and wet sand. I tried the water but think I am in the wrong area do you folks search the outgoing tide and search where the waves break? Just wondering if I am in the right place. People tell me to go out waist deep what is the difference of being out there in the water or being out there after the tide is low . I may not be understanding this all but I'm trying? I have read Clive's book 5 times now and keep trying all kinds of things and places. Ready to hang up the DF PI.

The Dual Field is home in the water... if you are hunting where the wave breaks you are going to dig all the lightweight junk items.. it doesn't matter if you use the PI or a VLF you're still going to dig junk hunting there... Stay out of the dry stuff with a PI it doesn't belong there..

I never hunt the where the wave breaks... the best tides to hunt are minus tides... get a tide chart and watch for them... depending on where you are winter is the best hunting season up here in the north east because during the summer the winds and currents push the sand in (towards shore) during the winter it takes it out....

In the water you should be looking for troughs I hunt up to chest deep, sometimes a little deeper feeling with my feet for a hard firm bottom... if you are in soft sand you will not find anything good or rarely...

Feel for gravel and shells...

If you are hunting the wet sand look for gravel and shells again or a change in sand color....

Hunt 2 hours before mean low water and then again 2 hours on the incoming tide....

The most important thing for a successful beach hunter is his or her abilty to be able to read a beach... if you can't read a beach stay in the dry stuff...

Thanks for the help Craig I am here in the northeast and was always taught that where the sand is pulled out at ow tide is where to hunt especially if it is deep slope. I guess things change I am going back a few years too many to recall lol. Well I guess I'll start going out further when the tide is low and get into the water then I believe that is what you are saying correct?

You need to get Clive's book 'Water Hunting': Secrets of the Pros one of the best out there...this book covers everything...if you have it read it over an over again! g/l
