what kind of probe do most of you use

Well, I like to use Hypnotism on other Detectorist's so I can Probe my way into their mind and get info about some of their Sites that they know about.

Seriously though, I use the Sunray X-1 Probe since it clearly is the best out on the market. The only one that goes Deeper than this is the Uniprobe but the Uniprobe isn't Discriminative so you will pick up every Metal Target in the hole while the Sunray will give you a different Sound for each Target in the hole. I also use a Steel Probe for Surface Coins.

One hour of trying to pinpoint with my Automax V4 pinpointer a weekend or so ago re-affirmed that there is no other choice to make.
While the V4 would detect metal at an inch or so away, you don't know what it is. If you are digging through trash, and multiple targets exist in your hole, with the X-1 you know it is a nail or your target. A non-discriminating/target id'ing pinpointer will have you pulling every nail.
Also, I get at least 3" of depth with the X-1. So, if you can detect the target with the probe, your plug should be 3" thick. If you can't detect it on the surface, dig a deep plug. I dig my plug which is usually 3-5" of sod, scan the plug with my X-1 to make sure my initial scan was correct. After that I scan the hole which makes the X-1 reach down to 6-8" from the surface which is most targets. If you do not rush and are patient, you will not gouge your finds.
Lastly, combine all the abilities the X-1 provides you with and it translates into drastically shorter dig times, smaller less damaging plugs which of course increases your detecting time and number of finds.

I think it's not a terribly good design, but I use it a lot. I complement it with the Vibra Probe. ML could have built one into the E-Trac that would have been much better than the X-1.
I use the UniProbe.

The UniProbe can be used with any machine. Has about a 3" reach, maybe a tad more. Sens. can be adjusted and also the frequency if necessary.
Now if I use regular phones and a hand probe, I'm kicking myself for not using my UniProbe.

Got my uniprobe a few weeks ago to use w/ my GS5C, but have been using them on the E-trac until my X-1 arrives. I noticed that the sound is muted/ flat sounding compared to my 2 pair of grey ghost headphones..... The Uniprobe just doesnt have the same crisp sound. Is that the norm... I was a bit suprised since they are both detectorpro.... The detect range is great on the uni, and I really like the smaller diameter of the probe.

The aestetics of the probe itself is lousy - looks and feels just like a cylinder. The way it's mounted is not very good and the clips break - DAMHIKT! The switch is a real pain in the neck (the old ones broke) - way too easy to forget to put it back in it's normal position and walk around like an idiot for several minutes detecting nothing. Should have been a momentary contact switch on the probe itself. It detects too much off to the side - makes pinpointing an object very difficult. You can put the unit in pinpoint mode, but you need to reach to the control box and switch to that mode, detune, scan, switch back, etc. Again, probably should have been a separate function built-into the probe or if Minelab had done it they could have accessed pinpoint mode electronically - Sun-Ray can't since it's an add-on.
Having said that - I would never detect without the X-1 as it's hands down the best accessory for the Explorer there is, period! I use the VibraProbe to pinpoint sometimes or find small items in the dirt that is more difficult with the X-1 - saves me having to reach to the control box and the sqeal on the SE when pinpointing is terrible!

Even more depth 1.5 -1.75 along the probe shaft sides and the ability to detune with light

Mine came with a tool -trash bag ,belt holder (for probe) and brass probe and a plastic digger ....the digger might be great for prospectors to isolate small nuggets.
I would never use as primary digging tool. The great Thing is its a better probe and it does not interfere with my E-TRAC
