What research can do. Gotta love this hobby! Saturday & Sunday Finds.

And may your next hunt be full of great finds for you to post. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

Fantastic finds James. That 1886 V-nickel is a real rarity - congratulations! I also like the trade tokens and that Franklin half. In 10 years of detecting, I've only found one Franklin. I think these were snapped up by the guys who started detecting in the early 70s so they are really tough to find. Keep up the great work- I really like reading your posts.

Franklin Halves because I have only gotten 2 since fall 2001 when I got my Explorer XS. The only tougher Half would be a 1964 Kennedy and still looking for one of them. Found a 1967 40% Silver Half so I got that one out of the way. Them Tokens are a blast to dig up but I just wish that the soil would be kinder to some of the Aluminum one's. That V-Nickel was a terrific find also and I doubt I will ever find another one of them things of that date at least. Glad you enjoyed my finds and story TokenDigger. Hope you do well on your next hunt. Good Luck and HH to you and thanks again!

Very impressive numbers for the 2 days of hunting! Good job. I only have one question though, were you getting permission to hunt those churches that you 'came across' in the country? The way you worded it \ it didn't sound like you were... just wondering.

don't need permission to hunt Country Churches. The only time I would advise someone to get permission is if the building was a Historical Landmark or if there was a Parsonage next to it. You also want to make sure that they are not privately owned by someone since some Churches are bought up when they closed down and then converted to Homes. Other than that, you should be able to hunt any Country Church unless there is some Law stating that there is no Metal Detecting on these sites which I have never heard of. If you hunt Churches, just make sure to always be neat and tidy when hunting them and to take whatever Junk you may recover with you and dispose it properly. Hope this answered your question and Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Country churches, like City Churches & are private property and require permission to hunt,,,wildherre

You ain't thinkin' with your noodle again. And here I thought you had more luck than a dozen Irishmen in a shamrock field on St. Patrick's day!

You have been double dealin'! Of course you need permission to hunt church property. You may have gotten away with it, but without permission you give us all a bad name. Please don't dispense advice when you don't know what you're talkin' about.

Hi, I was curious about the same thing, nice finds James, but as far as I know church property is private and one needs permission first.

Regards, Erik

when you were a kid Maverick, at it went right to your head....if you know what I mean. You don't know how many times I have talked to grounds keepers or even church members when I have been out detecting so you have no clue as to what goes on while I am out hunting. Not one has had a problem with me or anyone else that I know that hunts these sites detecting them and some have found Rings and other things and have returned them to the rightful owners. In fact, we were at another Church this past Saturday and the grounds keeper was very interesting in what we were doing and he had a detector himself. There are so many people buying up Atlas's that you would be surprised that show where the Old Churches are located due to the fact that they are a Public Place.

James,

I enjoy your postes very much and you make some great finds. But Churches are private property unless they are no longer in use as a place of worship and have been purchased by local or state government for some reason. In most cases the deacon board is considered responsible for the property. HH and keep posting those silvers.

you're not detecting, you're stealing. I'm surprised not more folks here have jumped in to set the record straight for you. Your actions are hurting the hobby for all of us including yourself.

James Somebody here on the forum is just a troll.I'm researching a couple of spots we can hit before the fluffy white stuff falls.Keep the faith brother.Bill

I hunt a site that needs it. I've been detecting for around 18 yrs now and have always been given the go ahead at Churches either from a grounds keeper or someone else affiliated with the organization. I get permission for vacant lots, house yards and any other site that I hunt that needs it since I know all about how easy this hobby can be hurt by others that don't so I'd drop it with your little comments. There is plenty of people that know me and have hunted with me that know I get permission for sites so don't make this sound like I just go where ever I please without it. If anyone is hurting this hobby it would be you with all the negativity towards people you don't even know and making them look like their the bad guy. There's a reason I do so well when I go out hunting and that is due to research, getting out of a site if it isn't yielding anything old after a short time, and going from one location to the other since time goes fast when out detecting. Now if you still don't get it, you best find a different hobby that you enjoy.

you would be very surprised at how close it is to you buddy. Haven't looked at the forecast yet for the weekend but if your free on Saturday or Sunday, I will more than happy come out your way and take you to that site. Lots of ground to cover by what I hear and the Silver seems plentiful also. I'll keep in touch with you about this weekend if you can get out. Thanks for the vote of confidence and wish some of these clowns would get the boot. Like I've said time and time before, I can't help it that the sites I find are loaded with finds but that's what research will do if you take the time and read a book. Thanks once again and Good Luck and HH to you.

Thanks for the reply on the finds. I do get the permission when needed and will do more extensive research into this matter. Thanks for the response and Good Luck and HH to you.
