What the heck is THIS??:yikes:

This thing was a foot deep and has the back of a capped bust coin but its made of something HEAVY?? It almost feels too heavy for copper but is for sure not silver. I was hunting the site of an old stagecoach stop with Bryce and Darrel which was in use from the 1820's til late 1800's. Does anyone have ANY idea of what this could be. It is the exact same size as a half dollar.

Could this be some type of counterfeit half dollar??...and should I soak it in olive oil or something to hopefully looses up the grit on front?

Here is the back:

It could be fake Dave, but I'm hoping it's the real deal for you.:clapping: Cool find just the same no matter what it is. Thanks for sharing. GL & HH.

That's a cool find no matter what it turns out to be. Could it be a token from that era, perhaps a Hard Times token? Hope you find out. HH

Looks like a cap bust half dollar... maybe the 1839. Do the measurement and you may find your coin. It could be a brass copy but then it could be silver depending on the minerals and targets around it. Someone showed a silver coin on here once that was crusted over and GREEN. My guess on that coin would have been copper... WRONG. So who knows on yours. Great find.

.Please let us know what it is. You just kicked some butt with that find. Looks like you have a capped bust coin the back matches it.

The reverse seems to have the 'HALF DOL." instead of the '50 C.', which would put it 1836-1839. What's on the edge of it? Is it lettered, reeded, or smooth? Could be a cast copy, hard to say.

It has a reeded edge. I think I will soak it for a couple of days then try and clean the front some.

I agree on the token...seems like tokens of this time were designed after the coins of the time...Found one that looked like a large cent and one that looked like an indian head penny but actually were advertising tokens....with the product clearly spelled out on the front...Silver may get black but not brown or green....In any case a nice find...

Hi Dave. It might be a token from 1836-1839? Nice find. B careful cleaning it but Im curius to se a ittle more of the front where a store name might be??

Hi Dave - Nice find! I agree on copper token - especially since it's so heavy. Olive oil
sux, takes a long time, and will continue leeching out of the planchette - try some cold hydrogen peroxide and refresh it when bubbling stops. If u want to get a bit more aggressive, boil the liquid before dropping the coin in. Good luck and I'm sure it will cleap up nicely!

Bring that sucker in town so we can mess with it and see what it is bro. I know we1'll pull a lot more old coins from this spot. Darrell worked hard at locating it and he's cool about sharing sites.

Whatever it is, it looks sweet!!!!!!!

Cool find whatever it is...congrats!!!:clapping:
