What's the best small coil for the Safari?

Hello again- Although I still have another 4-6 weeks of winter here, I am still trying to get all of my ducks in a row before spring arrives. In regards to coin hunting with the Safari in parks where there's usually high trash. Since I'm a "newbie" should I be looking for a smaller coil right away or should I just get used to the 11" Pro coil in these areas to start with? Because I have read numerous post's online that claim the Safari can be very difficult to use & pinpoint in trashy areas with the stock coil and that a smaller coil is a must. If you agree, what small coil would you recommend? Since Minelab's smallest coil for the Safari is only 8", I have looked at the 5" range models in the Excelerator/SEF, Coiltek, and Sunray brands. Also, do I stick with the DD or go with a Concentric in a smaller coil?

Thanks much,
John

Hello John. Same problem here in Norway, summer begin in April.
I don't think you get used to that big coil in trash aereas,a smaller one is a must.
I got a 4,5x7" Excelerator coil which i like a lot. You must get something like that.

Have a nice day, Jens.

I really like my Sun Ray X-5. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. A double D coil and it's depth really supprised me. But it really has to be trashy to realize how good it works. Now if I slow down with my Pro Coil it really seperates good targets out of trashy sites. In fact if it is a little trashy I will use the Pro Coil instead the X-12. But that X-12 really gets down there. The size you choose depends on you and your ground.HH :minelab::tesoro:

Hi John, I would use the pro coil for your first few outings, search in coins and jewelry and auto sense just listen and get used to the tones. Small coils are OK in places that you can,t work the pro coil, tree roots and undergrowth etc. I have the 6" Excelerator DD coil that I use mostly in the woods ,it has good seperation and good depth (6" on coin size targets) it also runs very quiet even with the sens turned up. Remember the bigger the coil the better the depth. Good Luck with your Safari. Les.
