When will we get a colour screen.(Fun thread but getting a bit long so I closed it),start a similar one if you like,Ray:smile:.

if it were an option I would NOT want it! it would serve no purpose and would not make the etrac "detect" any better. Only thing I can it doing is giving shorter battery life

I also would like a color screen. I would also like to be able to change the colors and combinations of colors. I think the next e-trac will retail at least 1600.00 so for that $ I don't think it would be the hard. Look what 1600 would get you in a laptop or PC. Compared to what cell phone can do, metal detectors look archaic. I know alot of this is based on units sold vs the cost of R and D etc. but it boggles me when I see 10 yr olds walking around with Blackberrys. and Iphones. I feel the same way about dive computers. I do know that battery life is a major issue there.

....I agree with the Captain!!!

Why do we need a colour screen? The next gen ETrac's will probably have one only because the V3's have them.
I would rather have the technology for more accurate discrimination of metal types. Maybe it's beyond our current technology to accurately tell between a ring pull and a ring??

Gaz.

All a color screen will do is create a more expensive detector while doing absolutely nothing to make it a better performing one.
Color screens are nothing more than cosmetic and probably not going to be as eye friendly as a monochrome style screen.

I welcome additions like faster processors, ergonomic design improvements, WEIGHT REDUCTION etc etc etc.
I personally think it's a waste of time and money to include pointless features like a color screen. In fact that's what I like about Minelab machines. There isn't anything gimmicky about them. Just raw performance in an attractive package.

A color screen would burn up the batteries faster...and for what? It wouldn't add anything to the performance of the detector.

A colored screen--what for????--To "eat up" batteries faster than it already does.----Gimmee an Etrac (II, Pro, WHATEVER) that tells me tabs from gold rings and I'll sell my car & old boat to get it!!! --------Del

Hi Guys,

Thats a turn around you guys are a nation of bells and whistles. Well we all know it is impossible to tell the difference between a pull tab and a gold ring and if anone can seperate them they will be a millonare over night. After using detectors here in Australia since 1977 and all makes their has been a bit of improvement in discrimination but a long way to go yet. So maybe when minelab releases there underground vision technology which the goverment give them a grant to do so, then we will see a vision of the target on the screen and know by the shape what the target is. But who knows how far down the track before they release it. Bring it on.

Regards Below2Doe.

Hey how about a screen we can see in all light conditions. Wo'nt do much good to make it colour if you ca'nt see it. Cut some weight off would'nt hurt either.

:help:I'd settle for a mosquito fogger on mine. Oh, and I agree with Al in Ks. Being able to see the screen in all light conditions might be more difficult than the Gold vs. pull tab issue.

You guys that dont want a color screen must have never used a Vision.. Shortens battery life, costs more... you sound like a bunch of old ladies........ gimme da color..

Color is so nice once you have it and does a lot more than just purdy things up and..... it is the way things will end up going as processors get more oomph and detectors have more capability. (Same arguments when the Model A overtook the Model T.) Real differences for us all will be when coil tech improves with a processor to match. In the mean time.... both Whiz Kids and Curmudgeons will find the goods by learning and using what their box offers.

I want the screen to be made of "gorilla glass" so it will not scratch. Mine has suffered in the 18 months I have had it. Do colored LED take more juice than white? I did not know that.

Performance trumps aesthetics every time for me.I am all for "New bells and whistles" when they improve my finds at "worked out sites".When I feel the desire to show off my detector it will be by the boxes of old coins it has helped me locate rather than by the snazzy new colored screens and other new features that do not help me fill said boxes of goodies.
As has been stated the best improvement to the E-Trac screen would be better visibility in bright sun light.Colored or not colored makes little difference if you have a hard time viewing the data in bright sun light.
After all my rambling I must admit a colored screen would be fine by me as long as it did not add to the cost of the machine.

I am more of a pessimist than those above. Why write about what might be nice. ML doesn't give a flying rip about what you'd like to see. Don't need a new machine. Just need one that works for longer than 10 minutes and if it does die it would be repaired and returned in two weeks. Best detector made. Worse repair/customer service in the industry. jim
