Where do I start with the Deus??

Rick(ND)

Well-known member
I got one coming to try out as I just had to try one to see how it will hunt compared to my Sovereign GT and my E-Trac. I read the owners manual I downloaded and printed off on-line and read it several times, but I know actual hunting will put this in perspective more. My question is should I start in Basic 1 as the owners manual says or do some changing to this program for coin hunting. What about basic 2?

Thanks
Rick

Rick, the first day I had it, I started in Basic 1 and scanned some of the change that I had found before, looking and listening to the numbers. I ground balanced and started hunting.. I left the sensitivity at 90 and didn't move anything, except turning the iron volume down to about 2, till about my 2 week of hunting. My first day I found several wheats and a token so that basic setting is just fine, till you start getting used to it.. let me know if you have any questions. GH

I would start in Gmaxx and leave it alone. Just GB. I have learned one thing in the month I have been using the Deus the more disc. and reactivity you use the less depth . Still the depth is very good. I was able to hear the deeper targets and have gotten double digit depth on small targets. The superb audio is what I enjoy most and at the push of a button you can check the target in multiple programs and different frequency. I think people will one day find the right combo to dig those deep coins in areas of modern trash. I can in fields loaded with iron. Yourself, Larry ,Ray, and Bart have the experience to make it happen. Good luck.

I would have to agree with woodchiphustler, for coin hunting the G-Maxx program works best for me and when I have a questionable deep target, I hit the + key to go to Relic mode for a little extra power for a second opinion and then - key to go back to G-Maxx. Except to adjust the sensitivity for your ground, I wouldn't mess with it too much. Good luck with it.

If you have a test garden, play with the different programs to see which one works best in your ground conditions. And if you have some rusted iron laying around, put that in with some of your coins to get a feel for the separation abilities of the Deus and the sounds. I found that Basic 1, G-Maxx, and GMPOWER work well in my area in Virginia. The only adjustments that I made was to the 3 and 4 tone settings and I bumped up the sens from 90 to 99 to get a little more depth. Even at 99, the Deus was pretty stable. If you use Pumping as your GB choice, make sure that you ground balance at least every 30 mins or so. Make sure that you GB over clean ground.

stick with the standard progs in differing soils to get a feel for it ,try all the GB modes in those soils as thats importart.use sample coins and gold and silver artifacts to get a feel for it before you go to notch .
experiment in each prog and flip between the 4-8-12-18 freqs to see the difference on targets and iron

From my experience of 21 month of using Deus program GMAXX is about the worst for coins and I would not recommend it. There is a huge difference between Sensivity at 90 and 99. Not to mention GB setting, TX Power, Iron Volume, which are all crucial for performance.
