....where do you stand on threshold???

Gaz

New member
....Where do you stand on threshold level guys.

Do you, or do you not agree that a slight threshold hum is necessary for small faint targets to be heard?
Does it make any difference to the volume intensity of the target if you have the threshold high or low???
Is the only reason a threshold is there to tell you when it's nulling when using discrimination??

I use no disc and hear all the iron so I don't need a threshold because it tells me nothing.

What are your thoughts....

Gaz.

I agree with you Gaz no point in threshold if you use no discrimination. less stress on ears. I think without threshold you can hear better faint signals--I think so, but I use max gain 10. so my signals is signals or on the border. Stasys

i dont have a threshold hum because thats how ive been taught by GAZ and i am so happy with the way my etrac performs i am listening to all my etracs noises and it astounds me how it can give me that bleep for just the smallest of things it is so amazing going off the subject a little and a question for gaz how does anyone know what to dig if they are working in conductive tones i just dont get it i am purely concentrating and hunting by ear now i have read that people know what coins they have under them and how deep by the tones well i dont i just keep digging all the high tones and getting results and that is what it is about thanks again gaz have you found anymore tweaks lately happy hunting all of you

.....that was my take on it mate.....with it off.....you can pick out the smallest of signals.
There is a bit of an argument going on over here that if you don't have at least some threshold......small signals don't break through but I can't see it.
They are just quoting the ETrac manual because it says you can miss signals if it's too low..........

Oh.... Not that threshold.?.?.?

I run mine barely audible so that I can tell when I'm in the iron - so to speak. I don't run in pitch-hold tones, but as I understand it I think you'd have to have an audible threshold to make pitch-hold work. I agree with ya though Gaz. I don't see much use in it, if you're almost 100% running 2-Tone Ferrous.
