Where to hunt in Gettysburg?

New member
I've never hunted civil war relic,s before but I've always wanted to but I live up in Indiana. I'm going to be in Gettysburg PA
for a couple of days and would like to know where and how would I go about looking for a place to
detect for a few bullits or buttons or any other civil war finds?
I thought maybe some of you guys may have had some luck there and might be able to point me in the right direction.
One guy told me to go out about 10 miles away and look around some creeks.
What would you suggest? Thanks guys for any suggestions. HH

Its really hard to get permission around Gettysburg. But nothing ventured nothing gained. Give it a try. Most people have been ask so many times by relic hunters that they just say no. But who knows. GL &HH

Although Gettysburg is probably the most famous place to hunt for Civil War relics, it is probably the hardest place to get permission to hunt. You almost have to know someone to get permission or know someone who has permission. Some people will pay for the privilege to hunt around Gettysburg.

I might suggest researching Indiana for Civil War activity especially Southern Indiana that had both Union and Confederate activity including one major incursion, Morgan's Raid. Indianapolis is also rich in non-combat Civil War activity. Good luck while in Gettysburg though, like Digger said, you just never know.

Good luck. It is almost nearly close to impossible.

I go to Gettysburg about once a month and the only hunts I do are paranormal. I leave the detectors at home, because walking those battlefields is way too tempting. I've been told by locals that people actually volunteer to assist the park rangers by using night vision cameras to make sure nobody tries to hunt at night. Those fields would be detecting heaven for sure. Lot's of the relics/bullets that are for sale in the local shops appear to be digs, so I'm guessing that somebody's been out there in the past before (and after) the detecting ban was enforced.
