Which one to buy for E-trac X8 or 8x6 SEF coil?

Thanks for the tests.

Air tests vary detector to detector but what about coil airtests on the same detector? I wonder if they translate better or more equally to the soil?

The tests you did show they are pretty neck and neck. I am curious how the 9.5 NEL Sharpshhoter does against the 6X8 SEF. To be honest I bet they are quite similar in the soil. Perhaps EMI differences might be more noticeable.

Thx again,
Albert

Ps - When I get the 12X13 NEL I'll post air and ground tests (on real field targets).

airtests are worthless IMHO....I want to see targets in the ground tested.

I couldn't agree more about airtests!

Yeh, maybe your right. I've accidently flipped a few coins out of the hole but never found one in the air...

I just got my 6X8 SEF (Symmetrical Electrical Field) and plugged it in to make sure it works. I was pretty shocked at an airtest indoors. With the sensitivity at Manual 24, I was getting 9" solid on a silver quarter. Close to 10" overall. I think when a small coil is designed well it can really go deep. The best I know of is the 5" for the T2/F75. But I am shocked at what the 6X8 got. In my ground I can run the stock at 30 manual so think I will be able to do the same with the 6X8 in the field, judging by the indoor results.

It took 2 weeks to get here from Bulgaria and I made sure to tell them to send me a coil with a nice tightly wound cable, not stretched out. That took about 10-15 emails to get across! Yes, English isn't there first language but they were super friendly.

Regarding SEF DD coils, which is what they basically are. It is interesting to see how truly symetrical they are, relative to the sharp edges of a DD coil. No wonder SEF coils are knowns as more sensitive, responsive and deeper. Same with the NEL coils.

I haven't seen an X-8 up close but I do have sef 6x8. How sturdy is the hook up on the X-8 coil? The hookups on the 10x12 and 6x8 sef coils are built like tanks. The hook up on the procoil is way too flimsy to suit me. Procoils won't take much lateral force to break the hookup mount off. Unfortunately, all my hunting sites are not smooth like golf courses or lawns/parks.

the X-8 is as stout as the 6x8.

I am pretty shocked at the depth on the 6X8. I got out today for the first time with it and dug a 6" deep coin that said1800 and something on it. And it was in the middle of the most hunted area, been through it a number of times. It rang LOUD and CLEAR. Nothing iffy about it.

Now, I air tested a silver quarter to 10" and today, no lie (got it on video) I dug a 10" small piece of metal that was reading, I think 1 on Fe and a high number on CO. It was barely hitting. I was never so happy to dig a small piece of trash. The 6X8 is amazing. I was running manual sensitivity at 30 with zero problems. Nice coil.
