Which one to buy

Hello, I want to get my dad a metal detector for his birthday. It traces back to his 11th birthday when he got his first big present and his dad ruined it by using too high of a voltage of the soldering gun (I think my wording is correct) because he wanted the process to go faster. Long story short it was ruined my father never got one. I want to buy one for him. However, I know nothing about them, I want one that you can use the soldering gun it is really do it yourself but comes in a kit all together. Does that still exist? If so which one do I buy. Thank you!! Ps should note the man has every tool in existence so soldering/tools not a prob

I don't know if there are any detector kits available anymore or not. Sounds like a nostalgia thing and your dad loves to tinker, but there are any number of good detectors available, probably better then any that would come as a kit, and at all price points. Bounty Hunter and Garrets come quickly to mind. Good luck, whatever direction you go. HH jim tn

Haven't seen a kit in years. Jim might be right. Could be a kit floating around. There are some great companies making great detectors that won't break the bank. Take his age into consideration. Might need a light, well-balanced machine. Believe me , an expensive heavy detector might not fit the bill.

why not get one that is already ready to go? I think the days of building a kit have been over with for a long time.
