White's new PI

Jason in TN

New member
Have heard rumors of a new PI from White's. To be released soon. Retail around $2000. For that amount of cash it must have Discrimination. Any one else heard this.

It does sound Very Interesting GH especially if submersible. Better yet, Indestructible!

I was told there was an Eric Foster/Whites co production being tested on the U.S. West coast at this moment. I didn't think it was likely to be true but a U.K. dealer told me at Christmas that a new Whites high power P.I. is being tested so perhaps there is some truth in the reports though only Eric can confirm if he has any involvement.

That would be one way to speed along the development of a new discriminating PI - get someone like White's to back you with venture capital and/or take them in as a partner.;)

$2,000 isn't chicken feed but certainly within the budget of many detectorists. It's unlikely that they could be mass produced to the point that economies of scale could be achieved but then the market niche is small. That's what Minelab told me when I asked about possible improvements to the Excalibur. They figure the market is in the $400 range so they have focussed their R&D budget on filling that market niche.
I would certainly be interested in a high end unit at $2,000 but it would have to deliver the goods.

Cheers,

The Eric Foster Goldscan 5 can ID properly between ferrous, and non-ferrous material, and do it at depth.

With usage, one can tell between lead bullets, brass, different iron, gold. We have had good success with the unit on relic hunting, a few even ventured into park hunting with it, and had done well.

It's not discrimination like what you have on your VLF detector, but it discriminates.

Just click here to view it.Goldscan 5

Garrett has one that doesn't do too bad, the Infinium LS, also the Minelab PI's have a surface discrimination ability.

the one's I mentioned are availble now in the US, and most importaint, they are proven designs that work.

I have them in stock. :)

Sounds like the right idea, but too large for the surf. Not submersible and inability to be mounted to the stem=(surf death). There is a market for this product and I would like to see it. If there is any truth to the rumor of Eric and White's building such a unit, I would rather wait for that, as I believe it will be GREAT. Need to sell the Aquasearch before it comes to market though, because it will be obsolete overnight!

Very true... I for one know just how well Eric's PIs work. I have owned his Beachscan Mk II for many many years and it has performed flawlessly. I wouldn't trade it for any other detector period. It may be a older model but let me assure you it can and does out perform many of the detectors that are currently available. I have detected since 1974 and have always looked for a new and improved model. But there comes a time when you know which detectors really perform and which detectors are advertisement hype. I own several different types and brands of detectors and each has it's particular use. But Eric's detector seems to get the most use when I want to penetrate deep and recover small gold items. I highly recommend all of his detectors. Plus Mr Bill has the best customer service and is very helpful after the sale.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on Whites for a water unit. :)

About pole mounting a detector for the surf. That would be just a matter of opinion. :) I have been surf hunting for years, and 95% of the time it's with a non pole mounted unit. Don't see any problems here. Been using it in surf that was so bad I had trouble standing up, it was far easier for me to stay standing without the weight of the unit on the pole.

On the wild example would be an Excalibur, barring the problems with this on it, the best for that unit as far as ease of use is to belt mount it. :heh:

I had heard from a Whites source that it may be available spring or this summer. For $2000 it better be a great machine. Do not know if it will be water proof or not.

Not waterproof at present.
Had an E-mail from Whites U.K. yesterday denying any knowledge of a new P.I.
This probably means they are further along with it than we think.

Didn't think we would see you posting on the forums for a bit after your recent T2 experience. I was a little tempted to suggest with the finds they have made that perhaps they forgot to add batteries. I've just had several abuse E-mails for saying that my pulse machines are deeper than the Explorer and Sovereign on all targets on wet sand (even though I've had one of the so called top Explorer boys staying with me from before Christmas and I've been getting him to cross check my targets with his machine before any digging takes place!)

price wise bdahunter because of where you live but a US manufactured Eric Foster machine would eliminate the exchange rate price fluctuations currently affecting the end users cost here in the US. Eric currently hand builds units so a low volume production run may show some savings as well. It will be intersting to see what shakes out price/feature wise between the White/Foster PI and the Pulse Devil.

Selling or licensing his GS5 design to a US manufacturer was a good move on Erics part IMO. That frees him up for more time to work on and produce more specialized niche machines for which ther eis always a market.

Just some rambling thoughts.

Minelab should know better & they probably do...They have sold a LOT of Non-Discriminating PI's (The GP Extreme, 3000, 3500, & now the GP 4000) not to mention the SD series...The GP is now going for $4k a pop & has no discrimination & also is not waterproof...Now if they could produce a GP 4500 that was a discriminating/waterproof unit I can only think that they would have to expand their manufacturing or at least their assembly facillity to accomodate the huge increase in demand that such a unit would command....even at $10k a pop...IMHO...
