Who shoots raw file photos?

Sven

Well-known member
There big, bold and beautiful and you have full editing control.
Just starting taking more pictures in raw format and on my camera have a number of format choices.
Such as being able to take the picture as a raw and jpg at the same time.

By the way using a Oly 4/3 camera, E-PL1

Pictured below converted and reduced in size from raw to .jpg to fit the forums size limit

You can also see them in a larger size as a .png

If you are going to shoot in raw, then do get lightroom, you can change virtually every aspect of the raw file. They will fill up a 8gb card fast in you shoot large files. My canon 7d largest raw file will come out at around 23mb. If I shoot raw, i usually take it down to the medium size.

I could shoot raw, but they do take up a lot of space, and I generally don't edit my photos. But I can see where it would come in handy.

For maximum quality always shoot in raw. Since your camera does both raw and jpeg that's the way to go. Cameras make adjustments to jpeg files and sometimes those adjustments are not what you want. So for total control shoot RAW and make only the edits you want for the file.
