I went to a site that has been good to me in the past and did OK. I got another 925 chain albeit much smaller than the last one and one wheat cent. Missing from the photo are 13 quarters that are in my tumbler. I needed 13 quarters with some others to make it an even 400 for the month.
As I was getting ready to go another detectorist approached and we chatted. Very nice guy as almost all treasure hunters seem to be. He proceeded to tell me about all the great swag he had taken from the park and he even had a few good finds last Saturday. Now this park is by no means hunted out and believe me I've tried. I reckon I've taken 1000 coins out of there, a gold ring, a couple of silver medals, some cool relics but never have I gotten a silver coin and he had found two last Saturday, one of which was a recent drop right where he saw me detecting. Why do I like this forum? I can post here about this great hunt that I had with a certain amount of anonymity. I know this park is popular with other detectorists but as long as I don't meet them face to face I'm OK. Then when I do meet somebody in the field and hear about something good that I missed (or just didn't get) I get a bit mental. Not really mental but you might know what I mean. I never divulge specific finds and specific sites with treasure hunters in face to face meetings. I'd love to plop that 1793 Two Reale in the hands of somebody who would appreciate it but the other side of that coin is I don't want to hit that site some day and find 3 or 4 guys looking for it's mate. Call me childish.
Labor Day is already here! The past two years my last day of hunting came on Thanksgiving Day. Depressing. The early weather forecast for this weekend is very favorable. I have a new site I've been saving all year and I'm hoping for a monster hunt there.
