Why not boost processor for the F75

I am on my second F75Ltd and this last one I had upgraded to the Ltd 2 level.

My first F75 I ran the boost processor most of the time and was very happy with that processor. I did the push the menu button over a lot of targets, which switched it to the DE processor and on a lot of targets the detector would no longer give me a response.

I sold my first F75 and went without a 75 for close to a year and I bought my second one and as stated above had a upgrade done on this one. So I am reading a number of post about how bad the boost processor is, so thinking I am really the only guy using boost I must be missing something. So for the past 2 years I have been running FA, DE, and the JE processors, now I am not complaining these processors got me some good finds.

Just this past Saturday I set the processor to boost and started hunting and at the end of the day I really can't see what is so bad with this processor. My finds for the day were up a little, I got 2 silver dimes and 7 wheat pennies, plus several other clads and reg pennies. Along with the little increase in finds, I really liked being able to run the coil along the tops of the grass without any scrubbing the ground.

I do understand that in the heavy trash the boost may not work as well.

I'm with you, Ron. I've used FA a few times and DE even fewer than that, but BP stays on about 99% of the time when I'm hunting. I'm specifically looking for old coins primarily and relics, and BP seems to hit harder, ID better and give better "dig me" audio in my 3-5 bar soil. For sweeping tot lots and looking for shallow things I know DE is faster and would be enough, but I'd hate to think I missed something old and deep that another mode might have not picked up.

I almost exclusively use BP mode on my LTD2, it's make finds at "hunted out" sites that other high end detectors have missed

BP mode is good for checking targets. I hunt new drops so dont need depth. JE mode does well for me. I had to disc it all out the other day and was still pulling coins like crazy.

In most areas that I MD in I run the JE mode first and if I think there may be some deeper older targets I will switch to the BP mode. If I get a faint signal I think needs to be check out then I will switch on the BP mode. Wish all of you many great finds.

It depends on the site for me. In heavy trash de just seems to be less sparky to me. If grass is tall, then I go to bp and also us bp on spots I and others have hunted hard as kind of a clean up mode. HH jim tn

Replies were kind of a eye opener for me, I was expecting all negative post telling me about trash and slow recovery speed.

Thanks for the supporting post for the BP mode. I will be hunting there a lot more.

We will be going back to the same area that we were at this past Saturday on our next hunt. That hunt I started off running the 10" concentric and switched to 11" dd coil at lunch. Next hunt I will at least start off with the 5x10DD and run it in BP mode. I am thinking better separation and BP should give me plenty of depth.

The reason I asked about your ground reading in one of your recent posts on the 10" concentric, if you have fairly hot ground the double d coils do better depth wise. And, of course, you know about target separation. Glad to hear you are sparking some silver. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim, I took the F75 out in my yard and done a ground balance at 64 and the Fe O bar graph was reading 0.3 which is heavy mineralization, but not uncommon in some regions (from the manual).

I am following you now with the soil question.

Would you think with the soil I have around here, would it be considered bad enough that I would do better with the DD coils over the concentric?

I ran the 10" concentric about half the day and found one of my 2 silver dimes with it and 1 of the 7 wheat pennies. The only reason I change to the 11" was for better ground coverage. Just about all the coins were within 4" or 5" of the surface, so depth wasn't a big issue for this area. I did find a bus token that was just a little smaller than a quarter and it was on the + side of 7" deep.

But to get back to the question of DD's and concentric coils in my dirt, lets just make up a number and say the coins were about 8" to 10" deep, which type coil would you call for.

I value your hunting info that your pass on, you got the marker set pretty high.

Our ground seems to be pretty close. Typically I ground balance 64-66 and usually fe o of .03-.1. Our grounds are reasonably moderate so as much as anything in making a choice between the two is the trash content of the spot If, however, I thought there were 9-10" deep coins where I was hunting I would opt for the 11 dd just because it is a bit deeper. And, I would be running in boost with as high sen as I could.

Oh, we lived in Fairmont for a couple of years back in the late 60's. Loved the country. Fished the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac for small mouth numerous times. HH jim tn

I've found the boost process to be the most productive in less than super trashy sites. But if I'll slow down the sweep speed just a little it recovers almost as good as the other processes.
If fact I can run in BP process, disc 0 and sensitivity 0 and still get coins to the 8" mark. Just my 2 cents.

About the BP mode

For me it picks up targets stronger but never seems to center on the target. so after the sweep I get the high tone on 3H then re-sweep and not in the same place. So every target seem iffy.
I have to go back to DE to verify location center or try and guess by pin point - also the ID numbers are off due to depth, which would be expected.

Anyone have thoughts on what I experience?

Should I just continue to keep at it? Maybe it is just picking up Junk......falsifying on High tones in 3 H on small rusty iron....and that stops me for second, third looks

If so then what is the preferred tones in BP...N1?

I will take notice my next hunt but your problem could be 3H tones which is looking for nickels and brings them in as a high tone with all the other clad coins. Now if you are over a target that is jumping the numbers around, I could see the detector thinking one swing it is a nickel and giving you a high tone, then the next it may read it as a mid tone.

I will give the H tones a try and see if it gives me a problem. For the most part I run 3 or 4 tones looking for silver.
