why not Tesoro?

was looking on the face book pages of Whites, Garrett, Minelab. they are active with post multiple times each week. why can't Tesoro do this? when people ask what would be a good detector to buy on the FB groups, i always say a Tesoro. so, if they go to their page and it has not been updated for well over a year. what are they going to think? seems odd that they do neglect this. how much effort does it take to update a facebook page? makes me wonder how much effort is going into a newly designed detector. not meant to stir the pot. but does it make sense?

The Tesoro people are Luddites, they have never thought all the modern avenues to disseminate information or become socially connected to their customers, anyone really, is important.
Their own website is rarely updated, it was actually down for a long time a few years ago and they weren't concerned in the least.
Even E mail is a challenge for them to deal with and it is well known that a regular phone call is the best way to actually contact them with any success.
IMO a great way to run a company...in 1970, in today's world they are missing many opportunities to communicate, educate and maybe increase business.
It's a private company so they can run it any way they wish and they do.
Actually, their detectors,(which I love), are throwbacks to an earlier era and the way they run the company is too so in a weird way it is almost poetic.

Posts like this with fans displaying their frustration at how they do things will good for venting but little else.
From their blase' additude about using social media to their decision to ask people to name a new detector years before a release date they have a very strange way of doing business from my point of view.
They don't seem to have the ability to change or even want to, but as long as they are still around to service my detectors all of that will be fine with me.
If they happen to come out with cool new detectors and products in my lifetime that would be a bonus.

I have used Tesoro detectors for almost as long as I have been detecting which is not a1/4th of the time some of you have been detecting, but it is all I own right now for a few simple reasons. They are dependable, rugged, light weight, relatively inexpensive and just a whole lot of fun to use. I did try emailing Tesoro once and got no response, and I do not really care about using social media like Facebook and the such. My wife jokes with me about this forum being my Facebook so maybe I am as antiquated and behind the times as Tesoro is. That is fine with me. Interesting thing though. Almost every time I have called Tesoro during normal business hours I have gotten a real person and not a voice automated system. Now I just call instead of email. Might be nice if Tesoro had a blog or a contact us feedback link that got checked at least once a day or once every 3 days on their website. I haven't really been worried about a new detector coming out, because I can think of at least 5 of them that are already out if not more that I would want to try or own. That is enough to keep me satisfied. Shoot I would be satisfied if they made the lobo waterproof or the Vaquero waterproof with tones. I think when a new detector comes out, people would find something to critize or whine about. It costs too much, or now that it has a big screen on it, it eats batteries and only has a 2-7 year warranty, and the multi tones are driving me crazy. I am not trying to be negative, just wondering if a new Tesoro or multiple new Tesoros are going to be a big hit for loyal Tesoro users or if the old classics with their so called behind the times technology by the naysayers will be what people think of when Tesoro is mentioned. IMHO. I for one will hold onto the ones I have and if Tesoro does release a new machine with great new technology or features I want I may buy one. I am happy with what I have and plan to buy more Tesoros and Tesoro products. HH

i will keep it simple, I like their detectors , but when they have my coil for over a month with no contact to me I find that very frustrating my last dealings with them was about 3 years ago and they have slipped backwards big time in their customer service from then.

have dealt with whites and fisher here from AU to the US with no dramas.

Tesoro has to be the most frustrating company I have ever dealt with.

so have come to conclusion here in AU I have no warranty and either I like that or I don't its my choice and it's pretty clear to me I am the one who has to change because they are out of my control.

so no big deal and I wouldn't care only the coil I bought new they no longer make and I would have liked it fixed but seems like that's not going to happen, if it was one they still made I would just bin it and buy another one.

so sent a hail mary today and emailed them :throw:

LOL not to worry it is what it is and life continues on with or without Tesoro.

AJ-------Forget the emails and call Tesoro.-----Ask (insist) on talking to Rusty or Vince ONLY.----Tell them your situation with that coil & I'm betting you will get it taken care of.----Emails are going to do you no good---it takes a phone call.-------I guess an alternative to this would be if you have a Tesoro dealer in AU----have them call Tesoro for you---but it would be best for you to make the call personally.------If you purchased that coil new, it should be under warranty & can (hopefully) be repaired--if not replaced.--------Just trying to be of a little help to ya on this if I can.-----------Del

Thanks Del, yeah if I don't hear from them will have to work out how to ring them from here only have my mobile and not sure if I can ring them or not, but will have to look in to it.

just not sure why they have not contacted me I wrote a note put my email address in there and what was happening return address etc..

last time I sent them something they contacted me within days of receiving the control box this time nothing so bit frustrating really !!

anyway it is what is and the dealers here are about as useless as bananas in the antarctic , so with all this modern technology we have it sure doesn't work to well sometimes :throw:

I would have hoped for an outcome in over a month and that I shouldn't have to chase them up ???

when Robert was around life was a bit easier for us out of towners !!

but again thank you for your help!

AJ

what coil do they have aj ???

its a HOT cleansweep coil 4 pin.

just looking at my cell plan cant make international calls, I have internet ph just going to check if I can use that and the cost.

bit frustrating really, but will plug away , I did notice they have new email addresses on their website I used the one that's for repair etc.. my question is why have them up there if its unattended??

AJ

this is not about having a go at Tesoro it's like reviver said just how it is and looked up luddites and had a giggle to myself :lmfao:

its more about frustration and it's all mine

but hey lesson learned for me, but hey never had any of their stuff go bad only this coil and guess that's why they don't sell them any more, for all I know they may has tossed it in the bin :lmfao:

so look at my detector list and I post finds made with their detectors free ad's all I want is a coil fixed fair trade right

I just rung Tesoro nice people once we got past the language barrier  guess they don't get many phone calls from people calling them mate in my full on Aussie accent the lady was real nice and I spoke to another man who said my coil is being worked on and looks like it's fixable and should be sent back in the next few days.

I haven't laughed so much at 2 am after the call just really he couldn't understand me so well sort of hard to change how I talk right :bouncy: but we got through it :bouncy:

so thanks Del for pushing me to ring and it was only a 15 cent call off my computer so even though they maybe not up on modern computer using I am and so cant complain about 15 cents :wiggle:

so a great outcome and my faith is restored now I know what to do if any other problems come up

so still more than happy to be a Tesoro user :detecting:

they are still there and doing what they do and long live knobs and switches :bouncy:

so I have to say sorry for my slackness causing any harm to others or Tesoro.

I have a big smile on my face even if I had to wait till 2 am to ring them 9 am there.

happy my coil is coming home soon !!

AJ

there you go. i always call also. it is the only way.

Glad I could be of some help AJ.-----And I'm like George-----"I LIKE HAPPY ENDINGS"!:biggrin:---------Del

Am I lucky?? I bought a new Vaquero and went on their website to see if I could register it online. After not seeing that option I dropped them a email. Guess what? Next morning I had a reply back. This was all of 3 weeks ago.

Nobody said they never communicate by e mail, it is just pretty hit or miss.
Now a phone call will usually get right through and most I have talked to in the lower ranks seem very knowledgeable and capable which is great because not all modern companies can brag about that.
What is really cool is that if you ask you can usually have some great conversations with the head repair specialist or the owner.
All companies have their weaknesses and strengths.
Who knows...maybe the Tesoro people will listen, learn and eventually change for the better and move into the 21st century with the rest of us.

A lot of valid points brought up in this thread. Wouldn't take a whole lot of investment by Tesoro to update their website and e mail practices. I remember at one time they had a pretty darn good forum. Also liked getting their small publication they put out. I guess times change. One thing though, they do make some fine detectors. Just fun to use.

not such good news just got an email saying they can't fix the coil. had me mixed up with someone else when I made the phone call then the email came latter.

oh well

from what I was told warranty is only for the original buyer and need to keep your receipt from the dealer the machine etc was bought from to get the lifetime warranty so just remember to keep those.
