why we might need to go deeper here in the Midwest

i was watching the history channel this morning,they had a show on the dirty 30's which got me thinking for once, look at the one picture i found it might be allot of the real old stuff might be to deep to find with regular coils.
 
Because the buildup of soil is so deep there, there must be places where the dirt has been removed and are more shallow. So, those relics should be very close to the surface.
 
I would crap my pants if I got into a site like that!!:stretcher:
