Why would one want to have a sunray x1 probe..?

imagine not having one strapped on any my horses. I didn't read all the posts below...but anyone who has one can tell you why you'd like one and also why you'll wonder how you ever did without it. I can't tell you how many countless hours I have saved in my hunts by finding a piece of crap right away on the side of a hole with the probe when chasing an iffy signals. Yes they are expensive...but I fell they are worth every penny. When I hunt I'm usually pressed for time and I honestly feel like the probe allows me about 33% more hunting time...especially if I'm chasing a lot of "iffy" silver hits....which is MOST of the time as most easy silver hits disappeared long ago here in my area.

There are numerous things that the SR Probe can do that a hand held cannot.

Well. I have to agree with others who have posted here. It has just made things easier.

A big plus for me is that I am and idiot and I have lost two hand held probes????!!!!!!

Plus I just have trouble some times SEEING what I have dug in the dirt. I need a probe and can't lose this one!! Had one since I bought my first Minelab [an Explorer S] when i started detecting in 02"

Ill put it this way. aside from all the other reasons that have been said here. If I was going hunting and realised that I had forgot my X-1 and was 30 minutes away from home I would go back and get it. Because it would save me more time than that when hunting! Give one a try --you wont regret it.

Truth is, you don't NEED it, but once you try one, you will WANT it, to the point that you won't want to hunt without one if you don't have to. It depends on what your time is worth to you; if you enjoy sifting through dirt trying to find some small item, and don't mind the extra time that takes, and are willing to risk scratching a valuable coin or item, then you won't need it. But if you want to recover your target as quickly and cleanly as possible then this is a must have.

The ONLY downsides to it are 1. a little extra weight, which doesn't bother me but may bother some and 2. it's a given that at some point you will leave the switch on the probe setting and spend 10 minutes wondering why everything got so quiet all of a sudden. Otherwise it will save you plenty of time, and prevent you from scratching good stuff.

You know, in a way this is like asking "Why should I spend hundreds of dollars on a state of the art metal detector when I can get an old late 60s BFO detector for $50?" Well, sure you would save some money that way, no doubt you could pick up an old BFO for cheap, in fact it's hard to give them away, and yes it will detect metal, as will a newer machine.

But you have to ask yourself what your time and enjoyment of your hobby is worth. Do you want to dig every freaking pulltab and zinc penny on the face of the earth that is 5 inches deep or less, or do you want a chance at deep silver coins? Just depends on what your time and enjoyment are worth to you.

Personally, the only way I would be without one on my machine would be if they didn't make one for it. Then I'd use the Garrett Pro pointer which is the best non-Sunray probe I've tried (and I've tried many of them). When I'm in the field, my goal is to find good targets to dig, find them as quickly and unobtrusively as possible, and move on to the next one to make the most of the time I have. If that wasn't my goal, maybe I wouldn't need or want the probe. I guess in the end it really is up to you.

I do not have an inline probe but can see an advantage to anyone digging in pristine lawns and parks as it would be easyer (faster, cleaner) for that person detecting and the rest of us would get a little bit of less hasle when trying to get permission. If you are having difficulty pinpointing with your machine please get one.

The probe makes it so much easier finding items in the hole. I disrupt less soil and almost leave no trace where I have been. The probe helps you pinpoint the item. I use the probe to see how big the item is by tracing the outline. The probe saves me time in digging and finding my finds. I used a pin pointer for a while, and still have it in case, however when I invested in the probe it made detecting easier. I wonder why I need my car, I can do the same on my bicycle, but just a little harder and takes more time.

I think magicman pinopinted it for me. I totaly see the use of the probe being faster and more accurate in an area that you want to leave pristine. But hey Im a shovelhead...why use a car when you have a truck... thus....I want to find more areas where I can hunt with my shovel.

Biggest thing for me Doug, is it lets me know if an iffy is iron or not. Usually right after I remove the plug,I stick the probe in and if its a low growl, its iron. If you run the coil of the detector over the hole. 9 times out of ten it will read silver SOLID. Its a back saver and save you from alot of unnecessary digger.I love it.:usaflag:
