will bigfoot for dfx work if coil cover is stuck on with special putty

I am tempted to buy a used bigfoot coil, was told if ever needs repair it can be done but it works fine. The unit was used at a rental facility and to make it pretty they mounted the coil cover on. I can un mount it with a blade...but does it really matter?

The coil is probably quite worn on the bottom so they glued the cover on to hide this fact.
I could see no other reason why anybody would do that for any other purpose.
If the coil works on your detector (I would definitely take it along to try it out) and the price is right - buy it.
good luck

I never knew that they made covers for bigfoot coils.

Yes they made covers for the BigFoot. Sometimes they don't fit well and fall off easily so many folks have taped, glued, or used sealant to keep them on, but as skookum said above. It was probably done to hid the fact that it was well worn. It really doesn't matter. The important thing is that it works. If it's a good price, go for it. Sometimes the coils can be repaired, sometimes (like one I had) they can't. That's why I have 4 of them.

are there different values for the different coils? like.. a rarer model? for the dfx vs prism? I imagine based on production figures.

The Bigfoot coils for the DFX/MXT/M6 are hard to find and costly so if it works and under $300, it is probably a good buy.

I had to pay 400, and will trade or sell some other goodies to offset the high price. I know it was high for what it is. I hope to recover the cost in some great finds.

The Prizm and XLT Bigfoot can be bought for a lot less just because there are a lot less demand for them .

The Bigfoot I bought for my DFX was used and also had a coil cover sealed on the bottom. I was getting some erratic behavior out of it so I sent it to Bill Laher in SoCal and he fixed it for $50 shipped. I overpayed for mine but I like the coil and I know I can get a decent return on it eventually when it comes time to sell (if ever).

I put a thin peice of masking tape around the edge of the coil of my Bigfoot now the cover it is nice and tight, But loose enough where I can remove it for cleaning.

I know above post is old, But thought I would give this tip in case someone wants a tight fitting coil cover with out glueing it.
