Woe is me with my V3

I bought the v3i for a reason.... i know its potential. Now i must unlock my potential and learn through trial and error. I have had great success with the factory pre sets. I also aquired the 10 x12 and 6x8 sef coils.
 
I am preparing to soon buy a new V3i but since I have such a great metal detecting buddy(Magic) he lended me one of his. I have been playing with the controls as per excellent detailed instruction from my buddeee and from White's operational video's. It is quite a different animal than my DFX.

The reason I want this detector vs. the other brand is because of what Magic showed me when we first met. He had me sold that this is the most versatile detector on the market as stated by goat rancher, or at least to that effect. I know the learning curve will be steep for me(hey, I'm old and dumb), but I am willing too put in my time in the field. Besides, I have the bug really,really bad.:detecting:

Proof is in the puddin as they say. Yesterday evening went across the road from my house to test the V3i in the trash laden site. Using Magic's Pro program I managed to extract an 1897 Indian and some neat relics from the 50's-early 60's. The best thing I noted however was the extreme sensitivity this V3i offers. Pulled a very small metal button from about 6.5 inches and it rang up like it was on the surface. All the more reason to own this detector!

In my opinion, comments about how terrible the machine is should be an embarrassment to you as you look at the finds from the guys who have mastered their machine. Ask yourself, if they can do it why can't I? I think you will know the answer.

I have to chime in on this comment, im a new user of this great machine(two weeks) and by no means a master yet.But let me tell you and everyone else you do not have to be a master of it to have great finds with this machine, its not rocket science, and its not that hard to figure out do your home work and you will be rewarded.BUT lets face it if your not at a good place no machine will find you that old coin or that gold its a metal detecter not a wish granting GENIE.Im a WHITES MAN and always will be cant compare others because i havent used them but i can tell you about the WHITES CUSTERMER SERVICE NON BETTER. THANKS BRYAN
 
Welcome to the forum and good luck with the V, it is a great machine and we are here if you need help getting through the rough spots.
 
The V3 is an awesome machine, but it can be a beast to tame and it took me many months to figure out how to not only get it running smooth, but also hitting deep targets. The factory programs in my opinion are only starting points and I don't like any of them because my MXT will outperform them. It seems to be an individual thing in getting the V3 to working the best as different parts of the country have different dirt. I was in Kentucky a couple weeks back and was having trouble with my settings working down there. It ended up it took a filter change to get it running smooth again. That's why it is so important to understand what to adjust and when. I have had to make adjustments locally at my hunting sites as they are all different and to get the best out of this machine you have to make adjustments on the fly as necessary. It is well worth the effort to learn the machine. Somewhere within the versatility of this machine there is a combination of settings that will work for anyone and when that light comes on look out. I was blown away how many more targets I was hearing with the V3 than the MXT and the depth was blowing the MXT away. I am not bad mouthing the MXT as I love that machine and it has served me well. The M-6 and MXT in my opinion are great for starter and experienced detectorists and will hang tough with most detectors. I am not trying to discourage folks, but encourage them to find that combination that works best for them. The V3 is so versatile in the way it can be set-up I am sure there is a combination there for everyone. Just don't give up on it if you want the best a metal detector can offer. Just understand it is not easy to find that combo of smooth operation and depth, but it is there.
 
When the "Vision" first came out, a group of us met up to play with the new machine. We knew nothing about it and it acted nothing like my DFX. The audio was weird, the menu complex and we were always questioning ourselves....deeply. (Something had to be deep because we sure weren't pulling up any deep targets!:rofl:) As we'd switch back and forth with the other machines we all brought, I'd grab a buds MXT because I'd used it several times in the past and liked it too. My attitude was "Enough learnin, now I'm gonna do some findin! (It was so good to go from fidgeting insecurely to fast and accurate.....the finds piled up fast.) Loved the MXT that day! We all walked away only barely glimpsing what the new machine was all about.

Now it's a different world and hitting the ground running is the norm. The V3i is so nice to settle in with and just go too...except better by a good measure...once learned even moderately. (Still think the MXT is one special box though.)

I'm not either Rob. The big advantages the V3 has is in target depth and target identification not to mention the program adaptations for your style of hunting.
Tough to beat that combination.
 
Yup....would be tough to even go back to my DFX now. When I think of all my programs, how they are adjusted to me and how solid I feel at the trigger now...would be too large of a regression. Plus....that interface is now such a major boon to getting all the stuff fine tuned to variations we run across....almost instantly. To call it all "bells and whistles" is like calling modern tech advances (in our cars) "a nice little comfort addition to a buckboard". (My "buckboard" has been teathered at the post.) She was a good ol' girl!
