Working the high tide is it worth it?

I tend to go out only at low tide on the water line. Is it worth at all to go at high tide sometimes it's my only option due to scheduling conflicts?

It can certainly be. Depends on what your goals are. Last Friday our two out of town kids were home for a couple days. Since they both had to work on Sunday, that meant they were traveling Saturday, so we did the 2.5 hour each way trip to the beach on Friday. The detecting window was from two hours before high tide to 4 hours after and then heading home. A better than average clad hunt at $8.84. Normal trash and, surprisingly, not a single piece of jewelry; not even junk jewelry. Was good to get out beach detecting. The getting out on the beach part part was the best part of hunting near high tide.

A good portion of summer beach MDing is for drops. They can be anywhere on the beach.

Think about it: people don't just go in the water to play and swim only at low tide, therefore there is stuff at all areas where the water is at various times. When I go to the beach I love it when high tide is at peak hours during the day (10-4) the week leading up to my trip. That way there are sure to be targets to find even up high.

High tide tends to concentrate the dry sand drops.

My buddy and I comb the beach together, he prefers to hunt the dry sand or very high tide line, I prefer extreme low tide. We often compare our finds, he spends way more time digging junk, I spend less time digging but often find more valuable items. We both have a Minelab machine, mine is a CTX and his is an Explorer, it could be I'm finding more because the CTX is a better machine???, who knows.

High tide concentrates the people and you really have less beach to cover out there.... especially during recent drop times. Not only that.... its thinking outside the box that may just put another ring in your pocket before someone else gets there.

I've detected the High Tide my last 3 Times at the Beach, When its Hot Its Hot. I use a Minelab Excalibur. Finds from May 14-15,2013.

Those are some amazing finds for the high tide line.
What I said previously AND if you have an Excaliber perhaps the drops from the past 200 years. Wow.

Thanks for all the compliments. I took the long Hike and went back after ( Storm Andrea )
Some of the coins and button were about 3 inches deeper, and none were laying on top of the sand like 5-14&15,2013 display.
I'll try and get better pictures soon. I went to WallyWorld and picked up a New Halogen Light, hoping to get better details on Coins and Buttons.
