Would like to here input on dry soil verses wet soil conditions....

I've dug a few rusty nails/spikes, etc. I'm thinking that a rusty target is giving off multiple signals depending on where it is hit. Up at the head of the spike/nail it may be 35-47

Down by the point or a flake off the object it may read 12-47.

If you have everything masked off for silver the E-Track is going to ping on the 12-47 and null on the 35-47.

If you hit the 12-47 in two or more directions you think you have a coin and who wouldn't? But when you dig it you get the entire rusty target.

I don't know this for a fact, I am just imagining what must be happening to me when I dig around rusty iron targets and here "good tone" null, null "good tone" null "good tone" etc.

Now I have pulled clad coins out of the middle of iron, but the signals were SOLID as if they stood alone.

Different soils, different site conditions and varying moisture levels may explain the different experiences that everybody is having. It's all about knowing how your machine reacts at your hunting spots. I have found that in very wet conditions I have had more trouble with iron and false signals. IMHO

Well, we got a fair amount of rain the other day, so I went out for a few hours last night. Surprisingly enough, I honestly believe that my results were fairly close to the same as a few days ago when it was really dry. I paid very close attention to the numbers last night, and I think I've been overworking myself. Each time I got a solid signal last night, I would move 90 degrees and scan again. I dug three targets that had somewhat iffy signals, originally coming up as 12-43 to 14-46. The thing I noticed on the second target, and watched for specifically on the third target, was that I would see 17-45 pretty regularly. Now, I can't say 100% for certain, but I'm pretty sure I've been seeing 17's quite a bit, but I thought that was within the range for coins. I know for certain last night that my numbers were bouncing between 14/15 and 17 pretty regularly. Is that pretty consistent with what you more seasoned users find? If so, would I be better off ignoring a 17-43/17-45 signal? Sorry for the newbie questions.

if I get a 17-43 or 17-45, I am very suspect it is iron, the signal is never smooth, so I flip it into quick mask and re-scan. Sure enuff the signal is then a solid 35-45
