Would you buy a Sun Ray in-line probe for the X-Terra 70?

Aloha
I was wondering how many people would buy a in-line probe if Sun ray made one. I really like the x-1 for my E2 and was thinking of getting a X-Terra 70 but would like to also get a in-line probe for it but they don't make one yet. Let's take a survey to see how many X-Terra users would purchase one. Maybe Sun ray would start making them if there is a high demand for one.

Aloha islandchips.....I have already discussed with Ralph of Sun Ray the status of the Probe for the X-Terra 70. The latest is that they have not ask Minelab for their co-operation on the X-Terra 70 yet. There is a fair amount of co-operation between the two companies, but no R&D has even started yet. Perhaps enough people emailing Sun Ray about the demand, would indeed speed up the process.

an in line probe for the Xterras? When different coils are used the detector senses a different coil and adjusts frequency. The detector would now have to do the same for the probe. What frequency would you make the probes?????

It would be hard to make a in-line probe for the X-Terras for that reason. Sun Ray would have to get the schematics of the X-Terras to see how they are made as some of the circuity is in the coils that would have to go in the probes, you and I know that will not happen as Minelab will not give out that info.
What I have been using on my X-Terras and the Tekentics T-2 is the Uniprobe that is built into the headphones as it is the best when you cant use a Sun Ray in-line probe.

Aloha
I think your right, I never thought about the different coils. How does the Uniprobe work? Do you have to change headphones when you pinpoint? If I remember correctly the uniprobe comes with it's own set of headphones? And about how much does it cost?

Hi islandchips
The Pocket UniProbe is a fantastic little unit. The Pocket probe is different in that it does NOT have a separate headphones. It does have it's own external speaker (which can be a bit hard to hear if you choose to pinpoint with it while you keep your headphones over your ears) or you can plug in an ear peace(ear buds) to 1 ear while still wearing your earphones.
It is in effect a mini pulse induction detector that you can wear on your belt and has the ability to hit a coin at 5inches. I did this on my first time out with it! It was a smaller coin as well which impressed me all the more. In an air test before I took it out, I couldn't get more than 3inches. When pinpointing with it, on shallow targets it gives off a fairly high energy squeal and as the target is deeper in the ground, the sound changes to a lower energy sound that as it reaches it's maximum depth sounds more like a slow rasberry.
This also helps in telling you how far the target is in the ground.
I've only had it for about 4 weeks now, but something else I have noticed with it, is that when the detector gives you a good signal and you pinpoint with the probe, is when the detector tells you that it is a shallow target and the probe gives you a lazy signal(that it is deeper than the detector is telling you) then it is junk.
I can't buy this unit here in Australia, So I bought it off David Heath of Dixie Detectors(see his add on this site) for $269 U.S. plus freight. Some people charge $299 for this unit.
Although it is an expensive unit, it has the ability to be used with ANY detector and it has a better reach than the Sun-Ray unit. This probe has removed my greatest frustration from this hobby, that of actually probing the target, and taking into account the time you can waist looking for the target or worse still, giving up in frustration, I believe that my find rate will improve by about 30%! I can't recommend them highly enough!
Hope this is helps.

Mick gave you the basic run down, but the ones built into the headphones are the better deal as for $30 more you get a high quality headphones too that are comfortable, plus some have said they even have more depth too. With the UniProbe in the headphone you have a extra cable to work with besides your headphone cable and I stick my probe part in my shirt pocket until I am ready for it. The when I want to use it i just reach up to my ear cups and switch the toggle switch on and it will turn on the probe and turn the audio of the detector off, so you only hear the probe. Depth has been good and with the pulse signal and set for a slight pulsing I can get within 4-5 inches of a coin and know the pulse will speed up a bit to let me know where it is.
These are not cheap like some hand helds that you have to almost touch the target to get a signal, these are around $300 as they are actually a pulse detector that you can buy a coil for and use as a detector too. All the circuity is in the headphones and small enough and light enough so you don't notice any extra weight. I liked mine so much I bought a second one for my Grandson to use.
The one thing I didn't like on mine is the toggle switch get bumped and turned on and I don't notice it and the battery will go dead, but now the new one the toggle switch instead of going up and down it goes side to side so it may not get turned on by accident.

Hi Guys,

I have a Sunray for the Explorer and its good but its not in the same league as the Pocket probe by by Uniprobe.

The Uniprobe is very user friendly with the Terra as they dont try talking to one and other.

I had one imported from the state by a friend as they are not sold in the UK which is a shame at many of my friends would like one.

When it comes to engineering the States are very often the best in the world.Regards,Jerry.

Aloha Mike
Thank you for the info on the probe. I will look into getting one. IM getting a X-terra 70 next week. But IF Sun Ray did make a inline I would buy it. Thanks for all the help and HH.
